    • Serb, what do you think of this?

Конец войны застал корреспондента «Газеты.Ru» на грузинской земле, в 12 километрах от Гори, на передовом БМП Российской армии.

For non Russian speakers, it's an article by a journalist who was riding along with a Russian IFV. It does quote a commander saying the Russian forces were ready to move for Tbilisi and would have captured it within five more days if Moscow hadn't ordered a halt to the offensive.

        • But they didn't halt the offensive, according to the latest reports, the Russian tank column has rolled through Gori and is continouing towards Tblisi. Soldiers riding along shouted "Tblisi" cheerfully to the Swedish news team.

You could expect them to move a little more carefully in "enemy lands", they could be ambushed or IED anytime anywhere, but obviously they think it's some kind of parade.

          • Frankly, at this point it needs more confirmation. I'm also seeing reports of Russian armored columns moving around and sporadically shooting, but when any armed conflict officially ends, the next several days always have the sides accusing each other of continuing movement and firefights.

            • CNN has reported, by their assumptions, that the Russian army is not heading towards Tbilisi, but towards an abandoned Georgian army compound.

It's not just the Russian army involved, but South Ossetians, North Ossetian volunteers, and Abkhazians, who may or may not be an uncontrollable factor.

                • Until further confirmation I suppose they're just drunk.

Which is probably true in all cases.

Dmitry Peskov on CNN confirms, but says that there were battle-ready Georgian tank battalions on the outskirts of Gori, and Russian maneuvers were necessary to "trace out" and demilitarize the immediate area.

I wonder if the Russian Peacekeepers will take action to stop this? That is why they are there, isn't it?

That's what they are doing, but with the history and bad blood between Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Georgia, all Russia can do is minimize collateral damage.

Russia let them start the war, might as well let them finish it

In all fairness, why would they ease Georgia's life as long as Georgia is hostile towards them?

Maybe because Patroklos heard McCain's speech, and believed "Americans are Georgians" too?
