  • What the West should do about teh Russian agressors.

    1. Grow some balls and provide military aid to Georgia

    or.

    2. Give Russia that little province it wants. Then go screw the rules and let Georgia and Ukraine into NATO the day the cease fire is signed with Russia, regardless if they meet the required standards.

Oh, and after this war we should also let Georgia have nukes and pretend it doesn't. You know, like Israel.

Feel free to enlist in the Georgian army, and tell us how that went. Also feel free to give the Georgian government all your money.

Leave the rest of us out of your martial fantasies.

Also you say that like its some kind of joke. I mean people actually did that in the Spanish civil war why not for Georgia.

In any case the answer is no, since I don't like Georgia's pro-US policy, I've posted this just because I dislike Russian imperialist policy even more. Now if Russians start carrying out genocide, then I'd volunteer.

If I were George Bush I would strategically position myself behind Putin at the Olympic games tomorrow and exert a subtle push that sends him falling three stories into a fencer's blade. Like Sean Connery in First Knight I would then scream DO NOT GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER as the Americans surrounding me slaughtered every other country in attendance except for the Georgians and the country that Ronaldo is from (gay or not, he is fine and the women must be similar by rule of association).

I am afraid the entire thing will be as devastating for Poly as the Iraq war.

But kudos to all parties in the region for providing us with stuff to bull**** about beyond Iraq and the US elections.

There isn't much we can do for Georgia now, and frankly, they are as much part of the current prob as Russia, but I think the Ukraine should be given a clear perspective for EU and NATO entry in a not-so-distant future.

In my opinion, the West should wait for us. Russia will be in proximity of Baghdad soon.

The response should be to freeze all Russian assets in the west & it's allies in Asia if Russia does not immediately stop its invasion of Georgia. Russian nationalists have already nationalized many western business interests in Russia so the Russians have much more to lose at this point. If that doesn't work then an embargo of Russia might be in order.

Long term Europe needs to ween itself off of Russian oil and gas. So completing a pipeline from Libya to Italy is in order as is connecting Algerian fields up to this pipeline and possibly building a second pipeline from Morocco to Spain. The EU should switch everything it can from gas to electric (stoves, home heaters, etc) and use nuclear power or worse (but still an ok option) generate electricity by burning coal. Speaking of coal the EU needs to immediately start building coal gasification and liquification facilities on a massive scale so that they have a domestic alternative to Russian fuel.

NATO won't go to war over Georgia so this would be a bluff but ordering military mobilizations might get Russia's attention as would providing material support to states unfriendly to Russia. Medium term if Russia continues to arm proxies then the west should begin arming and training rebel groups in Russia. Turn around is fair play. Let the Russians see we can destabilize them as well.
