What the West should do about teh Russian agressors.

I'm not sure why Russia is necessarily the bad guy here. Georgia broke the cease fire, Georgia picked a fight,
That is subject to debate. The Georgians are claiming that Russian armed rebels spent several weeks attacking across the cease fire line and that their offensive was in response to the rebels breaking the cease fire. I'd agree that the Georgian response was not proportionate to the rebel attacks but that still leaves who broke the cease fire open to question.
On the contrary, it avoids real war but since Russians don't respond to diplomacy it is a way for the west to punish Russia for its barbarism. Mark my words the Russians will keep doing this in other enclaves unless someone sends them a strong message that their interests will be hurt if they keep acting this way. The west simply cannot allow Russia to continue invading other European countries.
Unless Russia tries to do something stupid like annex all of Georgia or start massacring civilians, then we should just stay out of it and let them figure it out themselves. Unless we want to try and even-handedly mediate the conflict and reach a peaceful resolution. That'd be good. But "sending a message" shouldn't be on our agenda.

Georgia's already signed a cease-fire agreement that Russia has conviently ignored. They're looking for regime change in Georgia, from a pro-western leader to a pro-russian. Whatever Georgia may or may not have done Russia's response has been overboard.
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Signed a cease-fire agreement? With whom? The Georgians called a cease-fire, the Russians ignored it. There was no signing of anything.

Well, they signed the proposal of the Kouchner guy, who'll now go to Moscow with it. I can find a link if neccessary.
Until both sides agree to a cease-fire, there isn't one.
I doubt the Russians will agree to a cease-fire until they have created the situation on the ground they want, which at this point seems destroying as much of Georgia's military as possible, and securing all the territory of both S. Ossetia and Abkhazia, leaving Georgia with no military options in the near future.

Don't forget the coastal oil facilities such as in Poti, reducing their economical power significantly too.

What the west should have done with the dumb Georgian aggressors is not to have coddled them with military assistance and given the tacit nod to the anti-Russian bravado that led to this ridiculous war.

You think you ever stopped this Cold war practice? Who the **** do you think supplied Chechen scums who murdered our children in Beslan, Nord-Ost, etc?
You did through your lackeys in Georgia.
Oh, Serb you sad delusional little boy. Not everything bad which happens to Russia is the result of a secret CIA plot.
This is what I meant when I referred to the Russian paranoid-delusional mindset.
I think the USA should cheerfully allow Russia to enjoy another Afghanistan type war in Gerogia.
