Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was a major contributor, through his writing, to the breakup of the Soviet Union and to where we are now.

      RIP. A full life lead.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

He added the word "Gulag" to the American lexicon.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit I never got around to reading Gulag Archipelago. Back on the list it goes.

          RIP.

              Ivan Denisovich was amazing.

              So sad.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
