Catholisism, like all other Christian denominations, are flawed, as it's made up by flawed humans. No denomination has everything right. But saying Catholics are not Christians? Nonsense. I don't agree with all of your theology, just as you don't agree with me on everything. But you, as I, believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah, God's Son, and as long as you have that right, everything else become more or less important details, not decisive for salvation or being "true" Christians. I'd say people saying Catholics aren't Christians have missed some important lessons in Gospel 101. Just as Catholics saying they are not Christians have some lessons to learn too.

I think this is because the word Christian is in the US associated with born again Christians or at least Protestant Christianity.


People in Slovenia used to say they where Christians (not Chatolic Christians) while calling Orthodox Christians and Portestant Christians, well, *untranslatable word for Orthodx people* ("Pravoslavci") and Portestants. This was becasue Chatolics where such a clear majority. Also when anyone criticized Christianity or talked about Christianity they usually talked about Chatolic Christianity and often didn't feel the need to point this out.

I assume a similiar pattern of language has developed in the USA.

Well, unfortunately there are a lot of catholics who actually do see them as the 'first' christians. (if not the only ones).

Well, in truth we are the first ones. I don't see how protestants could claim to be first, when all of their founders were at one time ordained Catholic priests.

The Catholic church didn't exist at the time of the apostles, none of today's organized churches were. Not that it matters anyway, all churches are after all part of the REAL worldwide Church, which is Christ's body, the sum of all believers.
