I fear one day I'll meet God, he'll sneeze and I won't know what to say.

Ugh. You can't imagine how disheartened I became when I was stowing some items under the seat of my beautiful new Piaggio Fly 150 and saw the "Made in China" sticker.

I don't mean for the thread subject to be anti-Chinese. I am enamored w/ the Chinese people and their culture, as I am w/ many other cultures. My issue is the Chinese government. If not for the Olympics, they would have no interest in having world visitors over for a stay. Granted, I'm well aware that China allows tourism, complete w/ your very on "agent."

I don't intend to watch it. The I.O.C. is pretty much a joke agreeing to a million and one restrictions which China has placed on them but then banning Iraq because it isn't "independent"? **** them. **** them right up the ass.

The Olympics are not about the IOC or politics, get over it.

Let the athletes have their day.

a 1 and 1/2 star rating, sounds like your taste in books is similar to your taste in music?

seriously though, i can see why it would be hard to avoid buying things from china if you have a family, or even if you're one of those people who buys a lot of stuff. for someone like me however, i don't believe it's that difficult at all.

If it's not about politics why do the athletes represent nations?

                      Patriotism.

Do they represent political parties or countries?

No, I completely disagree. This line of thinking is exactly the dysfunctional thinking that allows for vast corruption and bending of rules. Hiding behind the athletes is inexcusable. They'll win their medals and have their friends and families with them. That's enough.

Can anyone say, "US basketball team?" What a joke. Those clowns have lost us victories internationally because they don't innately desire nor appreciate what it means as an amateur.

It depends how you look at it.

I see athletes going out there performing their best in a sport that they love for a country they are proud of, and you see democrats and republicans and communists. That's too bad for you.

What the **** is wrong with you -- "hiding behind athletes"? Allowing corruption?

I'm not sure why embracing the spirit of the game encourages vast corruption nor does it bend the ****ing rules.

I wouldn't have picked China for an Olympics, but what's done is done. I don't think you appreciate how hard and how long these athletes train for this. I knew several Olympians from my university and I know how much they put into this, and to me it's incredibly disrespectful for people like you to **** all over their hard work because you have a hardon for hating the Chinese government. I hate the Chinese government and the Greek government, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't watch and encourage athletes who are representing our countries in the Olympics.

Arguments about corruption, human rights, etc are all important and we should learn from the mistakes made in China, but don't punish the athletes for the ineptitude of bureaucrats.

Have you ever watched basketball? Those athletes tend to be showboating, egomaniacal idiots. It's a problem with culture, especially in the NBA and NFL. It's less about the team and more about bling and whores.
