Obviously im not legal age since i have not the hell of a clue what im talking about regarding alcohol....

Anyway, i got my hands on a pair of red wine bottles from a brewerie in traverse city. But, they have been sitting in a cellar for 4ish years since they were bought-and quite frankly the one i opened is like drinking straight vinegar. It doesnt seem to match the bottles printed claims, for sure. Has it gone bad? After drinking a few glasses(wanted to give it a chance atleast) i am thinking about just tossing it all. There are no cracks or seal breaks of any kind that i can see on the bottles. The corks look good and it popped when opened so it had pressure maintained. I have no idea how expensive the wine is, all i know is that it was a gift at some sort of wedding, placed aside, and forgotten(i hope)....but i thought wine got better if left to age

I cant tell if the alcohol is having an effect or not, if so it sure is puny. How strong is a red wine\wine in general?

Someone who isn't use to drinking should get drunk off a bottle. Someone who is use to drinking should get drunk off two bottles.

So I would recommend drinking under 1 bottle. Maybe under 1/2 a bottle if you are a lightweight.

At what temperature was they stored ? If too hot they can easily be destroyed.

When wine goes bad, it turns to vinegar. It sounds like that what you have there.

Wine usually does get better with age, but if it gets warm and/or if there's an air leak, it can go bad. In rare instances, it can go bad even without air and/or heat.

Or it might be just a really cheap bottle of wine.

And unless it is healthy for you, if it tastes bad don't eat it (or drink it). It is never a good idea to drink something disgusting to get drunk (although I have done so a time or two).

If it really tastes like vinegar, it has gone bad.

              From wineinfo.com:

A separate question is will you ENJOY drinking the wine. Only certain wines were meant to age. Most wines are NOT meant to age. If you have a "touristy bottle" like a Chianti-in-a-basket or a Portuguese-wine-in-a-basket, those were never sold because they were tasty in the first place. They were sold as decorations, really. White Zinfandels were meant to be drunk immediately, not even aged for more than a year. There is a gigantic percentage of wine bottles that go old in a year or two, never mind decades.

Even for wines that were meant to age - say fine Burgundies or Bordeaux wine - they only age well when stored properly. They need to be at an even, cool temperature. They need to be on their side, so the cork doesn't dry out and let in air. They need to be kept away from sunlight. You could have the most perfect bottle of wine for aging and still have it taste awful because of bad storage conditions.

Still, even if the wine was ruined, it won't kill you. It'll just taste like vinegar.

I knew wine around my place is given little chance to age. I did not know that "[m]ost wines are NOT meant to age." Gee, I've been doing it right.

So, you are saying you may have a drinking problem?

Slade, wine is for yuppies, women, homosexuals, and rich people. Get yourself a nice big plastic jug of vodka and some red kool-aid or tang. Then you can get ****ed up like a man.

Or, better yet, just smoke reefer and take powerful hallucinogens.

Its both dark and at a stable cool temperature where it was stored. A literal cellar, underground. It would never get warmed.

I did end up tossing it. It really does smell like vinegar.

And i cant see much point in drinking anymore just to get drunk-it really is revolting.
