  • I don't find him very much different from most others when there is a serious difference in ideology.

No point will be conceded. He's as stubborn as any, and has more persistence than most when arguing. At times I get the feeling that he simply uses the forum to practice arguments even if absurd. If that is so, that is not a very good thing in and of itself.

        Also true.

The existence of wealth implies inequality. If there were no inequality, there would be no wealth.

That is how we can talk about the wealth of nations, etc. It's one of the most fundamental principles in economics.

Adam Smith is talking about how with the invisible hand distributes wealth. I never said that it distributes wealth evenly. There is a huge difference between the two concepts. The poor benefit from the operation of the market, but the market doesn't level things. And nor should it.

I could go on and say a rising tide lifts all boats, but I would guess you skipped that part in favour of the class struggle.

Honestly, I am a bit disappointed that a good discussion in Poly terms is seen by some as one person changes their mind, or is 'broadened' by the experience. That perception of discourse produces the opposite effect.

I see discussion as an exchange of ideas. Progress can be had without the enforced conformity too many folks seem to believe in here. Just because two folks discuss doesn't mean they should agree or change their positions to go in line with the perceived majority.

I've gotten a few pms recently basically saying that I should just give up since I'm a minority of one, which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Are polytubbies so insulated that they've never heard anyone put forth these arguments before? I hear them all the time.

I argue for one reason only, and that's because I believe in what I post, and I feel I should speak up rather then hide in the shadows.

            Actually, no I don't.

I see integrity as an absolute.

So no, I don't have 'integrity' in the sense that you mean.

I don't know what that means. All I know is that more and more people don't see any reason to talk to you anymore. It's like arguing with a computer program who can not reason at all.

BK's fave tactic seems to be continually ignoring opposing arguments--the "I can't see it, it's not there" school of debate. He'll only actually take note of or quote an argument to distort it badly out of context. Very aggravating, and obviously pointless to fight with. And I don't know any other poster who does it to the same extent BK does.

Other posters at least appear honest, however obnoxious they may be.
