If the VA that considers him 100% disabled and McCain is just stating that fact, how is McCain lying here instead of the VA?

Sloww, I didn't join the VFW or the American Legion though I got letters offering me membership if I was willing to pay the dues. Truth is I don't like the politics of either group nor how much they cost.

Because of his claim John McCain has recieved a check every two weeks from the VA since the 1970's; these tax free disability payments currently amount to $58,000 per year.

The funny thing is when asked how his health is John McCain says he feels fine and is "as fit as an ox". He claims to have no health related problems which would prevent him from maintaining the grueling schedule of the President. My question is who is he lying to? Is he lying to the American people about how healthy he is or has he spent 30 years lying to the VA in order to keep getting money (well over $2 million is disability payments to date)?

Okay, I am NO supporter of McCain; I am voting for Obama, so I want to make that clear before I go on.

Being disabled does not necessarily qualify one from being an effective, competent president. Do you think Franklin D. Roosevelt made for a poor president because of his disability?

Agreed... he has to know how stupid it would be to hype some mudslinging that could remind people that he never served his country, but that McCain has, and has paid a price for it

So now other people (Ming) are saying that if you've never served in any of the U.S. military branches, that you think this should disqualify someone from being president?

I'm not saying that at all... Hell, our current president served in the military (kind of I guess) and he's a moron

But what I am saying is that it is pretty stupid to attack somebody for injuries earned while they were defending their country, especially if you never did. That doesn't play well with "most" veterans. It is not a good tactic, and I'm saying that Obama is smart enough to know that.

Yeah -- I hope Obama keeps his hands off of this!

Okay - I'm glad you still have some sensibility left then.

And I agree with you -- Obama would be doing a complete turn-around if he stoops to such idiocy as using this for mudslinging.

The big problem is that while Obama may know better and not go down that path... there are a lot of Obamafanatics that might go down that path in their zealous attempts to get their man elected. While I expect much mudslinging and many attacks before this is all over... this should not be one of the tactics used by any of the Dems... It's just not smart and could only backfire on Obama.

And as a Democrat I will be disgusted and ashamed of those other Democrats who say they want Obama for president, but would engage in such destructive acts that are actually detrimental to what they want to achieve.

Obama may have to make at least one public comment on this then, to make it clear that he disavows such action done by others.

MrFun, being a servicemember is not a requirement for being President, but it is a significant plus to a lot of people, as it shows a dedication to giving of one's self on behalf of the country.

As with every modern election in the USA this one will be decided by the (undecided) moderates. Every time an Obama fanatic writes or posts such patently absurd nonsense, another moderate will realize that nothing has changed on the Dem side and they will look away from Obama.

Only one thing can save Obama from a landslide loss and that thing aint gonna happen.
