My theory: McCain is completely disabled but we haven't seen the real one for decades. Like all other Republicans, he was long ago replaced with a technologically superior robot (see Dick Cheney) that's part of a vast conspiracy to reduce America's status in the world to bad joke.

This is great territory for McCain.

How many years did Obama serve?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Politically it sounds like great territory for the dems too. McCain would have to explain his disability payments which would bring the conversation back to how old, sick, and/or disabled he is. It would keep playing on people's feelings that McCain is just to old and unhealthy for the job.

Just so we get this straight, Obama was snorting coke while McCain was recovering from injuries suffered at the hands of the North Vietnamese?

I don't think the 'old' handle is gonna work. However I do think that this 100% disability can stick some mud, even if it's OK according to the law.

I was reading that "americablog." It's full of hate.

What's with people and their partisanship? Everybody is so quick to vilify the other party. I remember being disgusted by the Republican hatred of the Clintons.

Some people just have too much anger in their hearts to see things as they truly are. Those are the people you should try to ignore.

This election is shaping up to be a win-win for the American People. Either they get their first African-American President, or their first Disabled-American President. Or should that be 'differently abled'?

There were a few instances that I went to the doctor while on active duty and a year later when my unit was out processing I was told by the doctor that if I wanted I could claim at least 30 percent disability based on the details in my medical files. I told the doctor that I had flat feet before I enlisted and that it wouldn't be necessary.

Several in my unit left there with partial disabilities.

Oerdin, this is a sure fire loser. I sure hope the Obama campaign knows better than trying this sort of smear attack (not to mention that it's slimey).

You're a good man for not trying to cossy up to the feed trough on that one. There was one E-7 in my company who was inside an armored humvee when and IED went off. He was completely unharmed (the 1125's armor works well) and the vehicle didn't roll over or anything yet he kept trying to get different doctors to sign off on disability form claiming he had a lower back injury. It was pretty obvious he was just fishing for a disability payment which would last the rest of his life.

Just remember that there are varying forms of Arthritis

Not all is degenerative or Rheumatoid, I have severe arthritis due to that cokehead that took me out.

Mine is, IIRC, called post traumatic, since when it bent my wrist even though I didnt want it to, it ripped cartilage and tore tendons and ended having the muscle tissue torn and had to be shaved off.

The damage is so severe in my wrist, after 3 prevoius surgeries over better than a two year period, I have a wrist fusion coming up.

I simply state this because some folks who dont realize that arthritis is found in many forms.

I think Obama is smart enough not to use this... it's the left wing blogosphere that's been pushing this.

Did you call that number I provided, Oerdin?
What does the VFW and/or American Legion post of which you're a member think of the candidates?
I also looked at your profile ythat ou mention here at ACS.
Unusual in that absolutely no reference is made of your service, up to and including the hardships you endured.

Also, what was your MOS? Just curious.
Also, part 2, the injuries cited for McCain were initial injuries. It doesn't include having his teeth knocked out or anything afterwards, such as POW's are prone to enduring.
Also, part 3, as was said arthritis is no laughing matter.
Also, part 4, while he may say he could trek the Grand Canyon, which may or may not be true, I don't see a reference to the length of thhis theoretic trek, not the terrain that theoretic might include.

I know, likely you'll view this all as irrelevant, but you know how I am. I wonder about points such as these.
