ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Please don't do it!

I loath spammy, graphical signatures. So many sites have it, and too many ForumWarz-type people use it to put spammy **** in there. Animated GIFs, smiley-spam, flashing graphics, whatever...

I agree to your first point, don't really cae about the second, third is a management issue, it doesn't pay to make none PLUS members second class citizens, but the fourth makes Apolyton ugly as ****, and I'm pne of the few people who lieks the retro look on poly.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
Here's my opinion on those - not as the official opinion of the site but as my thoughts on the ideas.

1)give avatars to ALL members regardless of date.
All members can have avatars, and our collection of default avatars is quite big. As for custom avatars, the restrictions on those are really light. I don't know if there's much point to allowing custom avatars for everyone - experience actually shows that most new posters don't bother with an avatar at all initially. I could be persuaded otherwise, though.
2)Take off the date joined from the main forum posts under the users name. That further alienates n00bs. Leaving it in the profile is fine.
Disagreed. If anyone actually looks down to people with recent join dates, it's their elitist attitude. But - unlike post count - join dates are actually useful information and I feel having them displayed is good. Knowing if a person is new to the site or not helps when answering questions. Conversely, for new posters, it immediately makes clear how long the people answering their posts have been around so they can, for example, search for other posts by veterans. I don't know if others do but I frequently look at the join dates of people when visiting forums I know less, helps me make a good guess as to who's more familiar with the site's customs, for one. So I think that, unlike postcounts, join dates are useful information.
3)allow more options for Plus subscribers/ or something that the user pays for that they get benefits of. (eg. community ads, smileys next to their username, Color of their username, custom titles, etc.) Not only are you making money there you are giving each user a chance to be unique and express himself.
I generally support adding some minor perks to Plus subscribers, such as bigger avatars that we have - a chance to express themselves, in fact. But I don't at all like smilies in usernames, colored usernames and such stuff. IMO, it makes the forum look less serious. Meh. One thing that we've always had is, as mentioned before, generally older and more mature members than on most gaming forums. We want to maintain the more mature look.

This I strongly oppose. Functionality, baby. And see my point above about maturity and seriousness. With rare exceptions, I find smilies (or, God forbid, images) distracting and silly looking in signatures. Large fonts are certainly distracting. If your posts are so meaningless that your sig should have a bigger size... bad for you. I really like our sig policy - we do limit the total length and allow people to express themselves without it becoming a distraction. People can have contact info or favorite links or quotes in their sigs - but the visual emphasis remains on their posts, which would be taken away with bigger fonts or smilies.

OK. If you, or ANY, member of Staff reads this reply and responds i would be grateful:
1)give avatars to ALL members regardless of date.
2)Take off the date joined from the main forum posts under the users name. That further alienates n00bs. Leaving it in the profile is fine.
4)Relax your-nazi-like restrictions in the Sig field. Hell even CFC allows larger fonts and smileys in sigs.
Simple stuff like this, as bizzare and ridiculous as it may seem to you and the rest of the administration, can go a LONG way in keeping posters and having lurkers start posting.
while i'm obviously not staff, i'll still respond with my opinions
1. while i didn't like not having an avatar at first, that was really one of my main motivations to post more. kinda pathetic now that i think about it.
2. i like the date joined thing. it helps me remember who people are.
4. sigs with pictures and huge colored fonts are so freaking annoying. ugh. i don't go to forums that have them because it annoys me too much.
