I have to explain to you why "political posturing" != "not agreeing that US Gov created AIDS to kill black people"

What?! That's a ridiculous meaningless statement. Of course Obama didn't abandon Wright by Wrights own actions. That's doesn't even make any sense. Christ! Do you have anything meaningfull to say at all?!
I'm glad you agree that Wrights own actions aren't Obama's actions. Now read what I said again, and maybe a miracle will happen and you'll be granted the intelligence necessary to actually understand what I said.

You expected him to say something esle. What exactly did you expect him so say?
He could have said the reasonable thing and said it was over a difference of opinion. Which it is, which Obama was very clear on. Instead he decided to say that Obama wasn't really disagreeing with him, even though Obama was.

I understand how that seems ok to you, since reality isn't your strong-suit.

Why do you bother to talk about politics if you don't know how politicians brains work?
There's a difference between analyzing what a person says and does... and guessing at what they "really" think but have not expressed in any way, shape, or form. I understand politicians far more than you do. I don't pretend that I know them more than is possible. You pretend you know the inner workings of their minds regardless of how that meshes with what they say, or what they do. You think this means you understand more... but it really just means you're delusional.

    • Aeson,

Wow! What can I say? I tried to have a normal discussion with you, but you've done what you always seem to do, and now I don't even know what to say next. Why don't you go ahead and tell me how stupid I am and how smart and victorious you are now.

You're just posturing to save face. We all know you agree with me completely. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me.

And saying someone is political posturing is not saying that you are ending a friendship or withdrawing political support for them. In no way is it like what Obama did. Serously, I'm amazed that you assert such a thing.
It's much worse than what Obama did. The Rev is calling him a liar. It's not just disagreeing with what Obama thinks... it's undermining his integrity.

        Claim what? Are you drunk?!
No, it's not to claim I am drunk. Try again.

That's ok. I know it must be hard to come up with such ludicrous ideas as you constantly spew out. Take a break, rest up, and come back later and we can have some more fun!

You are pretty silly to keep arguing with me. Either I'm right, and/or you're wrong to even talk to me (as you've admitted before). Lose-lose for you.

          But thanks for the laughs.

You took up argument with me. I don't remember ever taking up argument with you. I think you know why. I've already said enough.

Since you deign to bring up the topic of who started our argument here...

I initially voiced a differing opinion than you had already expressed. I pointed out that you had made a differing opinion when asked if anyone held such an opinion. You eventually responded to one of my posts directed at Imran.

Obviously our views were in disagreement before there was any discussion between us, but you are the one who started our conversation on this occasion.

              • I kinda like this statement from the church though as I hadn't heard it before:
That's a reprinted article in the church newsletter. While he probably would agree with the general thrust of the articles, it's not kosher to attribute out of context snippets to him (and it's pretty shameless how CNN clipped the Toynbee quote). I imagine that it's a bit like posting an article on 'Poly...

And no, Obama didn't provide an answer to my question.

Care to try again? Again, let's see direct quotes.

I don't really know what you want other than the fact that Wright's comments are offensive.

And, again, let's restrict this to what Wright has said or written, not an idea that one of his philosophical influences may have expressed 40 years ago, but later repudiated.
I'll bet Wright thinks homosexuality and maybe abortion are immoral. But yeah, its funny to see people angry about his AIDS comment when these same people either ignored or defended preachers who said God was mad at us. Given the fact the gov't gave syphilis to black men about his age, his conspiracy is certainly more plausible than a God who kills the innocent as punishment for sinners.

Steven Colbert nailed the phonies tonite on his show, he ran clips of Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly blasting Obama for staying in that church for 20 years. Then pointed out these good Catholics have stayed in their church even longer in spite of the fact their church spent decades trying to cover up for pedophiles.

Was pedophilia the official position of the Catholic church. To be clear, was the man message drawing all those in attendence pedophillia?

I always find it amusing when people totally miss the real gist of a Colbert joke, and them post here with a hilariously self owning "gotcha!"

                          • Last night Michelle Obama was on CNN, Upclose or something like that, speaking about the "Wright Affair." We are to assume from what she said, that the Obamas had a pair of matching his and her earplugs that they regularly wore to church for 20 years. Did the interviewer even question her on this? Hell no. It seems to me that the media has an interest in the Obamas denouncing Wright, and are making Obama into a hero out of it.

                            • I'll bet Wright thinks homosexuality and maybe abortion are immoral.
Wright earned bachelor's and master's degrees in sacred music from Howard University and initially pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago Divinity School before interrupting his studies to minister full-time. His intellectualism and black militancy put him at odds with some Baptist ministers around Chicago, with whom he often sparred publicly, and he finally accepted a position at Trinity. ...

Wright remains a maverick among Chicago's vast assortment of black preachers. He will question Scripture when he feels it forsakes common sense; he is an ardent foe of mandatory school prayer; and he is a staunch advocate for homosexual rights, which is almost unheard-of among African-American ministers. Gay and lesbian couples, with hands clasped, can be spotted in Trinity's pews each Sunday. Even if some blacks consider Wright's church serving only the bourgeois set, his ministry attracts a broad cross section of Chicago's black community. Obama first noticed the church because Wright had placed a "Free Africa" sign out front to protest continuing apartheid. The liberal, Columbia-educated Obama was attracted to Wright's cerebral and inclusive nature, as opposed to the more socially conservative and less educated ministers around Chicago. Wright developed into a counselor and mentor to Obama as Obama sought to understand the power of Christianity in the lives of black Americans, and as he grappled with the complex vagaries of Chicago's black political scene. "Trying to hold a conversation with a guy like Barack, and him trying to hold a conversation with some ministers, it's like you are dating someone and she wants to talk to you about Rosie and what she saw on Oprah, and that's it," Wright explained. "But here I was, able to stay with him lockstep as we moved from topic to topic. . . . He felt comfortable asking me questions that were postmodern, post-Enlightenment and that college-educated and graduate school-trained people wrestle with when it comes to the faith. We talked about race and politics. I was not threatened by those questions." ...

But more than that, Trinity's less doctrinal approach to the Bible intrigued and attracted Obama. "Faith to him is how he sees the human condition," Wright said. "Faith to him is not . . . litmus test, mouth-spouting, quoting Scripture. It's what you do with your life, how you live your life. That's far more important than beating someone over the head with Scripture that says women shouldn't wear pants or if you drink, you're going to hell. That's just not who Barack is."

I want someone, anyone to explain why his beliefs are any more offensive than your run of the mill Catholic priest who thinks birth control and homosexuality are immoral.
