  • Whoa, I didn't know L. Ron Hubbard was such a good author

Just look at the ratings his books are getting on amazon.com. At the time I'm writing this post, Battlefield Earth is the only book in the twelve of the best-selling ones by LRH whose average rating is less than four stars. Oh, and how about Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health? It's got 221 5-star reviews against... what, one solitary 1-star review? Surely this must be one of the greatest books ever!

Of course you can't actually trust the consumers to see the wisdom in such matters as this, so what's actually happening is that Amazon's just removing the critical reviews. Phew! For a moment there I thought this was something to worry about.

Also in other news, Preorder Battletoads for the Nintendo Wii today! To be released worldwide on May 10th! (don't forget to ask about the Fair Game policy)

Oh, and while we're at it - that thing about the Jason Beghe interview teaser being removed from YouTube? That's nonsense! Even Fox News, of all, agrees: Just click on that link in the story and you'll see YouTube isn't taking copies of that video down!

(well, to be honest about this one, the video *is* still easily available thanks to commendable samizdat treatment by YouTube users. It's just funny that the account it was originally uploaded on would get suspended so quickly after the temporary suspension of another Scientology critic's account...)

Interesting. I will view all of Amazon a bit more critically now, not that I rely on their reviews of things much, but on whole things tend to be a bit too positive rah-rah, from my experience.

Amazon reviews are prone to gaming. The CoS tactics are extreme. But it happens all the time, even with little books and little gaming. Authors do it a lot. They get family to write positive reviews (some obviously not having even read the book). And they get people to list critical reviews as unhelpful. Amazon as a whole also has a preference for positive reviews, commercially.

            Wow!

I totally agree with you there!

            L. Ron Hubbard is the best, there is no one who can match his post and eloquence. *

By the way, I remember some poster here talking some big smack about how he was going to write a free lance anti-CoS article out in England. And he totally pussed out.

I never did write a free lance anti-CoS article out in England. Sorry to disappoint

Also, in other news... Jason Beghe blows!!!

Well, that is, he blew (i.e. left Scientology) about a year ago after having been in for ~13 years. Mark Bunker interviewed him at length about the cult a few weeks ago, and after some shenanigans with YouTube and other places, the full interview can now be found at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NNUjMz9-W2I&fmt=18 (and a bunch of other places, but this here is the full interview in one part).

Hubbard actually isn't a bad author at all. I have no doubt that the reviews on Amazon are not entirely even of course but that's hardly a CoS specific thing However, I read his fantasy series when I was younger and it was actually quite well written (and while it probably included lots of scientology philosophy, it didn't directly preach it, and I didn't turn into a 12 year old scientologist either way )

Oh great another thread to insult our lord and savior L. Ron Hubbard. When will you learn Ari? Scientology is the future and it cannot be stopped. The old Christian ways will soon come to pass like the pagan religions that preceded Christianity. Humanity will finally achieve a golden age of enlightenment and prosperity under the leadership of great men who practice scientology.

CoS tactics? Do you get off on stupid unclear acronyms TCO. I am tired of your games and lies about Amazon, you should be sued and raked over the coals for slander
