AAHZ, I'm disappointed. Recognize that when for most of the years that Markos and I were running Apolyton we were students. In the year leading up to Markos stepping down from this site's Administration, he was no longer a student -- hadn't been for a bit -- and was facing the external pressures of the "real world" of work. This pressure began for me in 2005 and continues to do so.
While Markos was without a doubt the administrative presence on the boards and the site's technical guru while we jointly owned and operated Poly, all major decisions were made equally by the both of us. We both brought our strengths and weaknesses into what made Apolyton: if it were not for him, Poly would not 'be' and the same is true of me. I may not have been or be a technical guru now, but my strengths like in other aspects of operating a website such as Poly.
All of us on staff are an older staff than was seen in Apolyton's earlier days -- few are students and those who are are not likely to be for much longer. Individually and collectively, we have less time to work on Poly as a result of "real life" pressures. Also take into account the last major game release that we cover was Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords more than two years ago and how that has affected traffic patterns (though expansions for it and most definitely Civilization IV itself released in late '05 have helped).
Could I/we be doing better than we are now? Absolutely. But that has more to do with a number of factors that means a statement that Markos is "better at running this website" is grossly misleading, just as your assertion that we would have "prospered" as compared to "survive" is. The points above are not by any means exhaustive but I believe provide an accurate and reasonable overview of my position. Hopefully I've at least softened your negative reflection of myself and the rest of the current administration.
