Women - Pretentious or Prudish?

OK, so I don't think women, as a rule, are either pretentious or prudish. It just made for a fun title

Anyway, this sort of spun off from another thread...

Here's the question. Men and women seem to portray different attitudes about sex. Men seem to be more easygoing about it, and more willing to have casual sex on a whim, whereas women seem to attach more significance to sex. Are men and women actually different, and do they actually feel the way they (as a general rule) portray themselves, or is either/both sex putting on an act?

I think that women are mainly putting on an act. Some women are certainly not into casual sex, just as some guys aren't. However, I think the reason women act that way, and this is an opinion formed from experience, is that women tend to be very judgemental (jealous?) of other women, and also care about what other women think of them, and as such don't want to be thought of as "whores". In reality, I think most women are just as willing to "hook up" as men are - they just have to get past the above problem (they care what other judgemental women think about them, and they tend to label each other as whores).

But don't you think that's simply because of the fact that women are much more likely to a)judge each other, and b)care what other women think, more so than men are?

I most definitely think that most women do not think about sex the same way men do. There's a reason that porn typically portrays them as 'secretly interested' - because we'd all like to believe that the women in our lives want to just do it right now. The reason they don't do it right now is that they don't want to, for the most part... they actually want someone who cares about them, rather than a purely physical relationship.

Do they, though? I've known many women who, in spite of claiming "not to be whores" have done the following:

-Had sex on a first date, in a parking garage
-Had sex in their car outside of work
-Slept with 4 or 5 different guys in a given week
-Gone out with the expess purpose of hooking up
-Told the friend they were with to go ahead and leave without them so they could "hang out"with the random guy they just met
-Slept with someone on a bet/dare
-Had sex in the bathroom of a club/bar
-Walked straight up to a guy, told the guy he was going home with her, and proceeded to take the guy home

Etc., etc., yet the common theme is that in spite of this, these girls/women try to make sure no one ever finds out about this kind of thing, because they are emphatically "not whores". Newsflash: I wouldn't care one way or the other, nor would most guys. The reality is, they know damn well they would consider any girl other than themselves who did that kind of thing a whore, and talk a ton of **** about that person, and they fear the same treatment.

It's not that I hang out with strippers all the time, or I only know 19 year old girls. It's also not that those above scenarios are things I've heard other guys talk about - they're things that have either happened to me, or I've heard from multiple reliable sources about people I know. It's just that, MOST of the time, MOST women who pretend "not to be whores", are MAINLY just afraid of what other people (other women) will think of them. They must be, because that's how THEY treat other women. That's been my observation. It may be wrong, but I don't think it's too far off base.

Few women that I know give a **** about what other people think about them, other than their friends, who know them well enough not to care about superficial **** like that.

I think it's pretty obvious women and men in general think differently on sex and relationship.
