There is no clear distinct line between political and economic systems, practices and institutions. To find proof of this one only needs to take a look at history.
Nationalized industries or even entire economies, owned by the state are good examples of this. Another extreme are the nearly “privatized” plutocratic governments of past and present.
Both are systems in which people try to maximize their social standing (through power or wealth) and are as such intertwined. The only major difference I can think of is the government’s right to use force and even that is in practice available to those pursuing higher social standing outside government.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”

Imperialism is a political system. Technically, it means a country ruled by an Emperor or Empress. It implies, however, a collection of nations ruled by a single despot.
Capitalism is an economic system.
19th century Imperialism was about conquest and not about a political system, since the various European states had different ones.DISCLAIMER: the author of the above written texts does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for any offence and insult; disrespect, arrogance and related forms of demeaning behaviour; discrimination based on race, gender, age, income class, body mass, living area, political voting-record, football fan-ship and musical preference; insensitivity towards material, emotional or spiritual distress; and attempted emotional or financial black-mailing, skirt-chasing or death-threats perceived by the reader of the said written texts.

Because the terms have different meanings depending on context, the answer is both true and false.
Zkribbler's definition of imperialism is a very old one. When Marxists use the term, it refers to the colonialism of the previous centuries, especially the previous two. Specifically, we understand imperialism by the analysis of Lenin in his 1916 work, Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

What we perceive as “government” or “company” are just a highly complex system of many such people engaging in such interactions, while following (or sometimes carefully bypassing) intricate traditional and legal rules. This results in very interesting macro emergent behavior of these systems.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
