LET'S TALK FACTS OERDIN. If you're on food stamps you're useless. These people need to quit whining about not having jobs when they have no college degree and a big ego, that they are somehow entitled to bag my crap at Safeway. Many of these people on food stamps are known gangsters and sex offenders, and it would be fitting for them to starve to death with the raccoons as they hide out in the garbage cans of the successful, trying desperately to steal their identity or at least wireless internet before time runs out on their conniving stomaches.
It seems like you don't know that a lot of the people on food stamps work, or are looking for work.

        But you'd be dishonest.

Although it varies by state, food stamps are hard to get on, and very easy to get off. When I was getting assistance back in 1991, the agency would do things like send your letter telling you that you had a meeting, but sending it so close to the meeting day that you wouldn't get it until the day of or after the meeting was to take place. If you missed two in a row, you got bounced off, and had to go through the long, arduous process of getting back on assistance. A few years back, when I tried to get on assistance after I lost my job, my unemployment payments put me over the maximum allowable income to collect food stamps or utilities assistance.

The only way anyone could have designer clothes and an SUV and collect assistance is if they had they before and then lost a job.

          Or have LOTS of kids.

Maybe it's a Utah thing (no shock there), but I've known far too many people that refuse to work because their assistance pays them more than they could get working. And at least some of these people were in the medical field and would make good money if they DID work, AND have the opportunity TO work. Yet, because of all the kids, they get assistance on all bills, have nice clothes, cars, houses, free school tuition, free school lunch, etc etc, and they come out ahead by NOT working. They go adopt more kids if they can't have more naturally.

Like i said, it depends on the state. In many places, you don't get enough money per kid to make adding children a viable economic strategy.

You really wouldn't be surprised that quite a large number of my drug-charged clients are on either food stamps or disability. While many are legitimately disabled and use the drugs to deal with the pain, unfortunately most that I come into contact with are really playing the system, and the only thing that breaks the cycle, temporarily at least, is if they go to prison for an extended time period and SS figures it out.

What's really pathetic is certain ladies will seek out some of these same men on disability in order to not have to do anything themselves. Yikes. Being on disability is the new college degree, in some circles.

A lot of people are frauding the system. I see it all the time as a tax preparer. They want to lie on their taxes, which I won't help them do, so they go somewhere else or do it themselves. A lot of them get busted, but its' often a slap on the wrist.

Do you and bunnygrl have kids? Food stamps are, after all, primarily "AFDC", or "Aid for Families with Dependent Children", are they not?

In brief, this is the problem.

A minority of people abuse the system, so all who use the system are suspect.
The same theory applies, and can be illustrated by Lifetime Network. Lifetime is nothing but men and how they beat and abuse women. Some men do, a minority, but the one's who do spawn a successful television program.
In short, all people who need to use the system are lazy no-goods; and all men are female beating bastards.

Can you not see the fallacy in both premises?
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

That's cause you're not doing it right. From what I've gathered, the key is to adopt 1-2 'disabled' children to rake in the $. This is helped by the fact there is practically no restriction or cost to adopting such a child, and if you know what to look for, you get a high functioning variety that is only technically disabled to qualify for those funds, but really requires no specialized care, or you simply neglect that care.

Saw it one too many times as I was the representative from Honeywell to PARC from '98 - '02. We contracted them to do all the rework for us, and I often actually worked AT PARC training them on how to go about it, and doing a spot check, and you'ld get new kids in that had been brought up in such a home. Suddenly too old for the assistance money, the parents cast them aside, and there they wind up.

No. You don't have to have children. If you work less than 30 hours a week though you have to be on a work search program.

Also, seniors and the disabled get them if they meet the income requirements.

I really wish they would eliminate farm subsidies but politically no politician will cut subsidies in an election year. That's just reality.

If there's a male in the home who can work, that usually means you won't get assistance, regardless of children. When I was on public aid, 17 years ago, it was the last year that able bodied males were allowed to collect in Illinois.
