I don't like the movement. I have nothing against the people though.

Fooled they may be, but that doesn't make them bad humans.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Well, as long as this thread's here on the front page, I might as well report a bit on what's happened with Project Chanology so far.

The first set of worldwide protests, which didn't have a specific name, took place on February 10th. The spotlight was on the story of Lisa McPherson and other deaths related to Scientology, and on figuring out whether Anonymous is even able to pull the worldwide protests off.

Well, it was. Estimates of how many people showed up generally range somewhere around 6000 to 7000. There wasn't a single report of any of the protests going out of control or violent, although a few did occasionally go a bit off message (usually to sing and dance). The Road to February 10th is excellent viewing regarding this protest.

The second protest, named Operation Party Hard, took place on March 15th. I was present at the protest at Lahti - we had about 50 anons present (70 according to the country's largest newspaper which reported the event prominently, but the reporter was a pretty short guy so I think he miscounted ), not a bad number when you consider that 50 is also the number of registered scientologists in Finland!

The focus of Operation Party Hard was the tax-exempt status of the Church of Scientology in the United States and some other countries. About 7000 people showed up worldwide. ONWARD - The Road to March 15th is, respectively, an excellent piece about this protest to view.

The third protest, named Operation Reconnect, is going to take place on April 12th. The focus will be on the Disconnection policy, and people who have lost family members to Scientology will be brought in to speak. Here's the semi-official unofficial announcement of the protest.

All in all, based on reading the news forum at enturbulation.org, I've come to agree with Elok's assessment in my previous thread on the subject: Scientology's been bleeding for years; they've been screwing up paying their bills, Mary DeMoss (a previous executive director of the CCHR, and a very well-trained bullbaiter) apparently left the cult months ago, their leader has probably gone off the deep end a long time ago considering what kind of crud he'll believe, etc.. Anonymous's significant visible victories have mostly been in the field of getting a decent amount of media attention, especially online, though there have been some personal victories.

The cult of Scientology is unable by nature to adapt to the modern situation where all the information about them is out there, freely available for everyone. I think the really significant victory for Anonymous is really showing people that you don't have to be afraid of Scientology anymore... as long as you don't take your mask off.

Scientology is still up to its old tricks. Hopefully Anonymous is enough of a shock for at least some of the members to wake up.

As bannered before in this thread, of course, you are invited to protest at your local Scientology org or mission on April 12th. There will be cake, unless the cake is a lie. The important materials can, as before, be found at http://xenu.net/.
