For someone in my position, I'm rich, but in teh greater scheme of things, I'm one of the poorest people you'll meet.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

yes it's true, but US working hours are even more unfriendly than Bracknellian (unless he wants to work for US Gov off course )

as for 80 hr week... well I agree that they are bad, but as a foreigner in US trying to succeed, you will have to do a lot more than the usual suspects who know their way around already and only average 50-60 as I suspect most US guys do (or at least everyone that I know personally, some even work 70-80 which is like 6 days 12 hrs+ ...) + two weeks holiday a year for the start and I am not talking menial jobs but skilled, developers, network engineers, accounting etc...

in Croatia I doubt anyone works that much on average... perhaps times have changed, but generally people do not tend to know what it takes to "make it" in the west... and what it takes to "sustain the level" either...

That's why I wanted to have a daughter, because boys only remember their own birthdays.

I wasn't doing it directly for the money - I was only being paid for 37.5 hours. It was about commitment to the projects I was working on and a lack of immediate alternatives at the time. It did make me feel very poor - of pocket, of time, of health, and of spirit.

                          **** that noise. I work 40 hrs a week. Or rather I'm *at work* for 40 hours/wk.

According to Census.gov, the median USA income is $21,587.
I thought I'd heard it was around $24,000. I was surprised the BLS had numbers so high. My gut tells me yours are more accurate.
