Pick a victorian age novel

All made into films &/or television series, all eminently suitable for a modern teenage audience (Gothic(k) elements, the supernatural, psychological disturbance, angst, murder...)

I'd also recommend Henry James and Joseph Conrad- 'The Portrait Of A Lady' or 'Washington Square' and 'The Secret Agent', respectively.

Nah, his genre is well covered in that list. Not a big fan of his writing, myself. I've also left off several writers I *am* a big fan of (John Barnes, ie) because their genres are well covered...

IE means "that is." EG means "for example." I think they stand for something like "il est" and "exemplem gratis," respectively.

I stand by my use of IE (although it should've been at the beginning of the parenthetical comment). John Barnes was he whom I specifically left out for that reason, although there were others less significant.

In context that doesn't parse right. I don't know who Barnes is, but unless he's got dissociative identity disorder and three or more of his personalities are published authors, he isn't "several writers."

He does write in several genres though (3), so in a sense he is several writers

Anyhow, it's common usage to say "several blah blah blah, ie blah" intending to convey that while you said several, you really mean the one primarily. Sort of "several blah, no really I mean mostly just this guy" ... not sarcasm, I can't think of the word I mean, but anyhow, that

i don't read for insight, i read to escape. i do hope i get hired at the book store because i really can't afford to buy as many books as i've been buying since my collection was burnt.
i won't read all of them, but a few have peaked my interest.


oh, and apparently wilde's book is my english teacher's favorite and she was extremely excited that i chose that book.
