Kid, my question to you is this:

What mechanism clears toxins out of your body when you fast/whatever?

If you find a mechanism other than your liver/kidney, i'll be very surprised.

Certainly you don't want them in your body. So stop putting them in your body.

Once they're in, there's only two mechanisms that will remove them (largely one, your liver). There's no magic drink that will magnetically take toxins out of your body. They go out through your liver, or occasionally your kidneys.

Do you consider this to be feasible too?
Well listen to NPR. They tested 35 people and all of those people had chemicals in their body that are associated with the environment. They said on PBS this morning that people have a chemical from rocket fuel in their systems.

Yep, some things will accumulate in fatty tissues. And there's bugger all you can do about it

Fasting clears out weak, damaged or dead cells in the body. I'm not sure exactly how that is suppose to clear out toxins but it's possible that the cells affected by toxins may be cleared out.

Actually you can sweat them out, and maybe you can fast them out.

Avoid processed food, avoid fish especially larger ones, embrace organics and whole foods.

Again I encourage reducing intake of "high density" foods (those high in fat and protein) because they just make things harder for you*. But there is of course no need to eliminate them entirely.
If say, that 30% of your diet is meat/diary/egg, then cutting that down to 10%, does a lot more than the final 10% to 0%...

Organics can be expensive, but whole foods are cheap. Meat and diary tends to be expensive. Your health is priceless. It tends to balance out in the end.

                  * It makes things harder in the following ways:
Firstly, your calorie intake is met more easily, making it HARDER to meet your nutrient and fiber needs. Your body says "I have enough calories" before it has enough of the other stuff...
Secondly, extra protein is nothing more than expensive piss. It basically makes the liver and kidneys work harder, not necessarily harmful, but don't think your doing your body a favor by putting in four times the protein as it needs:
Because the body is unable to store protein, excess consumed protein is broken down and converted into sugars or fatty acids. The liver removes nitrogen from the amino acids, so that they can be burned as fuel, and the nitrogen is incorporated into urea, the substance that is excreted by the kidneys. These organs can normally cope with any extra workload but if kidney disease occurs, a decrease in protein will often be prescribed.
Thirdly, the extra saturated fat and cholesterol is not doing you any favors.

Basically the vegetable-heavy diet is naturally balanced. If you eat to your hunger, you wont go far wrong. If you want a stress-free diet, it's the one to have.

I went cold-turkey into vegetarianism and then Veganism shortly after. I love it and haven't regretted it for a moment.

But there's lots of little changes you can make:

Replace animal derived products with veggie products. Spreads, milk, icecream, etc etc. Don't assume the alternative is horrible and understand they aren't meant to replicate the original - they are different. So just taste the food instead of obsessing over the difference in taste. If you'd grown up on soy milk you'd think that cow milk is horrible because it's "not like real milk". Okay? Perspective?

Eat a wholesome breakfast. If you eat processed cereals, then replace it with Oatmeal or wholegrain cereals.

Cut out as much salt and sugar as you can. Don't touch artificial sweeteners.

Buy wholemeal bakery bread, or get a breadmachine and make your own wholemeal bread. Supermarket bread is ghastly! The nice thing about bread machines is you can produce highly wholesome food with very little effort - and you can use GOOD flours! (organic stoneground (ground at low temperatures), or at least unbleached)

Consider eating vegan meals sometimes, maybe once or twice a week. Be sure to be CREATIVE! In other words, find something to eat that you've never tried before rather than just removing the meat and thinking "This sucks". Beans are always a good starting point.
Remember you can eat vegan without being an ideological vegan. Most people don't recognize that they do, or easily could, eat vegan for two meals a day (breakfast and lunch) and are entirely satisfied with those meals.

                    Forgot the most important thing!

DON'T LOOK FOR A QUICK FIX MIRACLE SOLUTION BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE, THERE NEVER IS!

It's always through sustained effort that your life is improved, aim to eat better every day, instead of looking for some miracle solution to absolve you of eating-crimes.

Good advice Blake, although I still definitely want to eat meat just not as much red meat, and no fish with toxins in them. I'm not looking for a quick fix. I've already started eating better, but I'm still looking for information on it. I want to get rid of toxins but I want to make sure I don't do any damage either.

If anyone else is fine with toxins in their body that's just fine too.

Yeah, I'm not really an ideological vegan. As I hinted at, I eat as other people eat when I live with them.

I really do think that all things being equal, in the modern western world Veganism is superior to other choices, in pretty much every single way...

In part if only because it FORCES you to evaluate your eating habits and learn about nutrition and cooking!

But the reality is, not all things are equal. One of my sayings is "I will compromise on all things except compromise itself"
In other words, if you have some belief, issue or habit you are completely unwilling to compromise on - IT IS WRONG . I'm not saying it's completely wrong, but basically you can either bend or things will break.

Sometimes people would be willing to prepare separate vegan food for me, but I insist on compromise and eating what others eat. I'm not an ideological vegan - but I do think it's a plain superior choice, all things being equal.

Anyway - I think the way to go, is through identifying the food products you are LEAST attached to and which are most painlessly replaced by healthier alternatives, and progressively improving your diet that way. That's an easy way to like halve or quarter your "Crap" intake, while still eating the things you really enjoy.

Replacing supermarket bread is quite possibly one of the easiest places to start. Along with eating oatmeal for breakfast. Oatmeal is like the healthiest and cheapest thing you can eat.

I think that people often, when thinking of a diet change, immediately gravitate on the foods they like MOST. Like "Aww but I don't want to give up steaks", instead of thinking of white bread and bizarre breakfast cereals. You can do a lot of good, continuing to eat what you like most, while replacing everything else with healthier and (often) tastier alternatives! Replace the most bland and insipid crap first!

PS. With oatmeal or porridge as I prefer to call it. There are instant oats and there are whole oats. Instant oats can range from super-smooth to lumpy. Whole oats result in a "textured" porridge - it basically has CHEWABLE bits in it . I vastly prefer the texture and flavor of whole oat porridge over instant varieties. All oats are healthy, but whole oats probably a little healthier - you should soak them over night to reduce cooking time, also with whole oats it's easier to clean the cooking pot.
Anyway if you don't like one type of oats/oatmeal, try another! They can be nearly entirely different.
And dried fruit in porridge is awesomeness, as is sprinkling nuts/seeds on top, walnuts being particularly recommended for omega 3 and being a desert/cake nut.
Always be creative with food .

The theory behind this is that one way the body deals with toxins is to stuff 'em in some place where they'll do no harm -- like in fat cells. There the toxins sit.

Fasting results in the use the energy stored in the fat cells, but releases the toxins as the fat cells are used up.

I was told to take Golden Seal root when I fasted to fight off the toxins. It didn't work. After about 1 1/2 weeks of fasting, I got sick. And so did most people I talked to.

I've been eating oatmeal pretty regularly. That's one I've always liked though.

I've also eaten greens and other good food. I've just eaten too much sugar, salt, starch and fat. So switching to healthy eating isn't hard for me I think because I already ate a variety of food. I just have to cut down on some of it.
