  • Human gullibility in action

Here's an audio recording made on November 18, 1978, at the Peoples Temple compound in Jonestown, Guyana immediately preceding and during the mass suicide or murder of over 900 members of the cult.

The only sad thing is the kids and the elderly and the politicians they murdered. And it's not just gullibility, it's mostly insanity.

Jim Jones was a nice guy. Pity he had to kill himself.
Also, Alabama 3 sampled this speech in one of their songs.

He murdered a congressman, journalists, hundreds of children and elderly, and encouraged the suicides of 800+ people. Anyone who thinks Jones was a nice guy ought to join him in hell.

Is this really any different from a Sunday sermon at church?

With one you can't wait until the end, so it might be different in that respect.

.01/10, Mr Penis avatar. Few sunday sermons end with 900 dead.

You do have to wake a lot of them up though.

Christianity still has the numbers killed on its side.

Not if you take into account how long Christianity was around, and your avatar is obscene. This lunatic managed to cause the deaths of about 1,000 people in like 2 years, Christianity has been relatively peaceful considering its 2,000 year existence.

By your math Christianity would have only killed 1,000,000 in its entire history (500/year average x 2000 years). You can't deny that the true figure is well in excess of that.
