I'd feel very sorry for them if they weren't Goths. As it is, I acknowledge that this isn't fair, but....eh. If people didn't "persecute" them, what would be the point in dressing up like Morticia Addams's crackhead sister? The whole subculture is based around being social misfit outsiders who dare to be different from the contemptible sheep who go about their consumer society blindly etc., etc. If they're going to go to all that effort to be deviants, it's only manners to accommodate them with the mockery they desire.
