I don't know if we do know that Kate is one of the Oceanic Six; she is a wanted woman, after all. Perhaps she snuck off with the six, unbeknownst to the world-at-large.

It's possible, but unlikely I think. I think it would be pretty hard to sneak off the island though. The black guy seemed to be looking for someone, maybe one the Oceanic Six or maybe someone that didn't leave the island.Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try. -Homer

I just started watching it, with this season opener.

I wonder how many times Charlie will get to come back as a dead guy.
After watching this wek's episode I'd say the show's writers still have it."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

I think we have Brian K. Vaughn to thank for that. He's been the story editor since midway through Season Three, when things started to get good again."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

Quick theory about the boat people and why they want Ben:
They are representatives of Dharma, sent to capture the man who wiped out their island research. Presumably, Dharma maintained some off-island presence after the purge. Also presumably, they would have some ability to monitor their island stations, and may have known that the crash of 815 coincided with a failure to push the button, thus causing the crash and leading to their belief that the 815 wreckage was fake. Given that their team consists of a physicist, a medium, and an anthropologist, it seems like they were put together specifically to study Craphole Island. Abaddon, that dude from The Wire, is a high Dharma muckety-muck, groups remaining leader.
Alternately, the boat people could also be off-island members of The Others/Hostiles/Natives/whatever, sent to rescue (or capture) Ben after communications went down when the hatch went boom (or for going rogue). I think this considerably less likely, but it is still a possibility. (I'm still trying to figure out how "The Natives" managed to get poison gas and automatic weapons for their purge of Dharma in the first place.)"My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

More wild speculation:
When Kate said to Jack in his flash-forward, "He'll be wondering where I am," (or something) she wasn't talking about Sawyer. I think she ends up with Sayid."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine
