  • Regarding Widmore and Desmond, the impression I had was that Widmore arranged that race around the world specifically so that someone would end up on the island and potentially reveal its location. The only coincidence is that Des was the one racer who found it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Sayid came to work for Ben. The implication is that Ben is having Sayid kill people who pose a threat to Sayid's friends--whether he means those on or off the island is not clear. It also is not clear how Ben convinced Sayid of this; I figure we will learn this soon enough.

    • Awaiting the second part of the season, here's a quick power ranking update:

      1. Desmond
      2. Sayid
      3. Daniel
      4. Hurley
      5. Ben
      6. Juliet
      7. Michael
      8. Locke
      9. Charlotte
      10. Jin
      11. Miles
      12. Sawyer
      13. Sun
      14. Jack
      15. Kate
      16. Claire

Really, the top two and bottom two are in classes by themselves, and everyone else is interchangable.

      • Who said that the child Kate "had" was Claire's Aaron? It could be that Aaron is Kate's child (although it would be a longshot, this is LOST we are talking about here).

Yep, they just cut 2 episodes because of the strike. There will be 14 episodes instead of the usual 16.

When the plan for Lost's final three years was initially announced, each season was supposed to have 16 episodes. However, the writers' strike soon came along and derailed this nice little idea

I thought this was a weak episode to end on. The back story with Micheal jumped around a lot and left a lot of plot holes open.

If ther are no episodes to open plot holes, there are no episodes to close said plot holes.

Fair enough, but the whole Micheal backstory and Rousseau ending seemed rushed.

                        • The scene with the execution of Alex was very powerful, IMO.

                          • That was what this show needed -- hopefully the carnage continues. Nothing breathes new life into a show like killing off a character -- a few more central characters would be good.

thus far, I haven't really engaged in the theorizing about the core of the lost story, but the end of the most recent episode had sort of a mythological feel -- I felt like Ben and Whidmore were portrayed as rival gods each claiming the island as his own. You get the feeling they've been at this for a loooooong time. There apparently "rules" to their competition preventing the killing of their respective families. Additionally, they can't (?won't) kill each other. The Sayid the assassin storyline strengthens the feeling that the whole game is played through intermediaries. It all felt like some modern spin on an old myth. Kinda reminded me of the Oberon episodes of that cartoon "Gargoyles".

Anyone know of a myth that would fit -- rival dieties/immortals battling over a hidden earthly paradise using mortal pawns?
