  • Just because I already know the stats as I'd just looked them up yesterday: In Canada 50% the 58,000 HIV infections are in homosexuals. Of those, 15,000 people in Canada do not know they have HIV (don't ask me how they figured this out, I've no idea -- but these are the official government stats). So, There are 7,500 homosexuals in Canada that are infected with HIV but don't know it.

Using Health Canada's "7% of the population is gay" figure, that means there are 2,337,309 gay Canadians, of which 7,500 are potential donors without knowing they have HIV.

Given the pool of 7,500 people and tests that fail only less than once in a million times, that's a pretty safe "risk"...

    • So basically Ben is so prejudiced against gay (men) organ donation that he would rather see people in need suffer and die than give them the choice of having a life saving organ transplant.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

        • Question?

          BTW Ben, a simple YES/NO answer…

If you found out next week you were dying of an incurable disease, and the only chance of getting a life saving organ transplant was from that of a responsible and monogamous gay man whose organs had already been screened and found to be healthy…

          Would you have that transplant?

            Here's two quotes from Ben:
So why should we accept donations that are harmful just to make the donor feel better?

("donations that are harmful" = donations from gay men)

Giving someone a diseased organ doesn't help them any. They need to be healthy otherwise the organ donation is a waste of time.

This was in direct reply to the argument that there's an organ shortage already. Ben's argument was by allowing them to take a banned organ from a gay man, they'd be taking a diseased organ.

Now, it's possible Ben doesn't really mean this, but then that'd be yet another example of Ben not being able to construct a coherent argument...

            • Do we? Ben has said so many things I deem out-of-this-world crazy that it would not surprise me in the slightest if he meant what he said.

              • Unfortunately I think we do – he has spent an entire thread arguing his case…

Anyway, I suppose he can redeem himself by answering my question.

                  His answer was yes.

                  • Was it? Oh good, so he’s basically invalidated all his arguments in one fell swoop.

I must have missed it hidden amongst all his other drivel, could you show me where it is?

                      • I AM!

If what Patroklos says is true then he has spent the entire thread arguing one thing only to choose the other option if he was the one in the position of needing an organ transplant!

Is it therefore not too much of a leap to describe his posts (the topic) as drivel if they don’t stand up to logical scrutiny and don’t even represent his true opinion were he in need of an organ himself?

I’m not attacking him, just his untenable position wrt this topic.

If you had read the thread you would know that

1.) this was not the case at all and

2.) where he said yes to your question.

Maybe because Ben KeKnobi never actually directly answered the question?
