    That was the reason the Dr. was out doing interviews. He was afraid people would get the wrong message from the news and donation rates would drop even lower.

    What to do about it is an interesting debate however...

      Pat never struck me as a religious conservative.
      Indeed, or against gays donating either.

      I don't rememeber any restictuons being placed on lesbians unless I am mistaken. Probably because the restiction has to do with comunicable diseases and not sexual orientation at all.

      And in any case, if EITHER side wishes to show the math for the cost benefit I will go which ever way it points.

            It it had nothing to do with sexual orientation, then why is it the make-or-break condition?

              Exactly. The Dr. did mention ear piercings however. Clearly the government is anti-teenage girls.

                      Thats not the make or break condition, the succeptability of a group to comunicable diseases is. Presumably, every group that falls into that category is treated the same, and they are.

                      I visited Africa once, I can't give blood for five years. How unfair. I cry myself to sleep everynight. Maybe we can hold each other in the night to help ourselves get over shame of having inferior blood, hearts, lungs, and kidneys

                        This is flat out wrong.

                        If it was susceptibility to communicable diseases that was the issue, then monogamous, long-term relationship gay couples would be permitted.

                        As it stands now, the whole condition is "are you gay? if so, you can't donate" which is the make or break condition.

                        I'm sorry that I need to explain this to you. It really is rather simple.

                            Whether the doctors choose to ignore them right now doesn't change the underlying arguments that are already in this thread.

                                As I say I really don't care about the issue but if you actually go through the effort to pull up the schedules to the Act you will see that you can donate.
