Okay then, would you want to live on "Hannibal Lecter Lane," or drive a car called the Cujo XL-7?

BlackCat, if you're going to define all religion as "superstition" by default, you leave me no choice but to define all atheism as "douchebaggery."

Wezil: Even non-religious people associate the number 666 with satanism or the occult or what-have-you, even if they don't know where the association comes from. It's become part of our culture.

There's a building like that in Vancouver too - 666 Burrard Street. Located right next to, and in fact bought density rights from, an historic church.

              superstition
              (sū'pər-stĭsh'ən) pronunciation

              n.

              1. An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.
              2.
              1. A belief, practice, or rite irrationally maintained by ignorance of the laws of nature or by faith in magic or chance.
              2. A fearful or abject state of mind resulting from such ignorance or irrationality.
              3. Idolatry.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Because...? Numbers and words are both just symbols used to stand in for concepts. Both can acquire a significance beyond their plain meaning. For example, 1776 reminds most Americans of the Declaration of Independence, and 9/11 reminds them of Rudy Guiliani's ego, much like "Adolf" can remind them of genocide or "Velma" of a teenage lesbian cartoon detective.

The existence/activity of God is not provably false. And don't give me that flying spaghetti monster crap, it's plain to me that by superstition Wezil meant that they were afraid the telephone number would jinx them somehow--not borne out by the article quoted. I know you want to be a condescending superior enlightened rational smegtard, but pick another thread for it.

You and I didn't read the same article then. They don't want 666 b/c they are "good Christian people". Obviously only an evil sinner would have such a number. Definitely borne out by the article.

Or they figured only a Satanist would have such a number, and they consider Satanists and "good Christian people" to be mutually exclusive categories, for whatever reason.

Well at least its proven that not ALL atheists bother reading an entire thread.

Clearly you have interpreted the word of god incorrectly.
