Yes, it's all one orgy of suckitude. Take it one step farther, young padewan -- which major city is Baltimore by?

Dude, I live there. We don't say stuff on the far side of Baltimore from us is "outside DC".

Especially since Baltimore is more populous than DC (within the city limits, that is).

Here's an experiment all Americans should try. For once, think of your country from the perspective of someone from outside of it.

Which is the city of importance: Washington DC or Balitmore, MD?

Yes, we understand that people outside of America aren't going to know anything about one of America's major port cities.

That's why we're hear to let you know - no one who actually lived here (me and kuci, for example) would describe a place north of Baltimore as being outside DC.

Except in the sense that, you know, everything not in DC is outside DC.

I don't get any special vibe about anyone here except maybe Velociryx, but I don't think he'll be famous or anything one day.

What I'm more interested in is surely out of all the famous people in the world, at least one of them must be into strategy games and Civ, and therefore might be lurking around somewhere.

I think there was once a Survivor contestant that listed Civ as his favourite video game.

I don't care who has lived there. The simple fact is, Baltimore is a nothing town and Washington DC is incredibly important. To outsiders, Washington DC is the landmark and Baltimore is something in the vicinity of DC.

It's just like I wouldn't care if you called Waterloo a suburb of Toronto. The locals wouldn't consider it as such, but I can certainly see why outsiders would. To outsiders, geographies get abstracted. Sorry to say, but Baltimore doesn't register on most peoples lists of landmarks in the USA.

I'm an ignorant American, Asher. I have no idea where Waterloo is. If I said anything at all about Waterloo, I'd likely be wrong, and I'd expect you to correct me. So, we're even.

Alright, I confess, I'm really famous. I love strategy games and work for the government, but I'm not going to tell you who I am because Laura will get mad at me, that dumb beitch. I mean, she thinks she runs the place. I will give you one hint; the reason I like monkeys is because some of my staff think that I look like one in my photos. Not that I do, because that is just silly, you know. I mean, monkeys don't wear suits and aren't president! Duh!!!

The audience here isn't local, it's global. If I were a local it'd be correcting, otherwise it's apt.

The fact that the locals disagree doesn't matter. It makes more sense to most outsiders -- which is actually the scope of this forum, as luck would have it.
