  • You know damned well what I meant, and it had nothing to do with disrespecting the NG.

As for the Dems in this election, I'm not counting them out, really, but I've no intention of getting my hopes up, because:

    1) The Dems could easily screw this up; and
    2) I don't even really like the Dems all that much, and it's easy to imagine a Dem I don't like winning and proving to be a crappy President.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

I did, and my reply was entirely valid. Well in hindsight, coming from you I should probably not assume malicious intent.

I am not happy with any candidate running on either side. I can count the Congressmen that I trust on two hands.

Why oh why couldn't the 9/11 guys have picked the white house and capital building instead...

We're just gonna have to disagree on that one, I guess.

Well, I kinda think they did (pick on of those). The 4th plane...

        • They should have prioritized better.

I have a bad taste in my mouth for joking about this

          • Of course in 2004 they thought having a real honest to god decorated war hero
Only after he threw in his medals.

I didn't know the democrats believed in war 'heroes'.

            • There's lots of talk in the press that Obama-Clinton is now a dead heat. I never expected Obama to be in it at this point.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

              • He was always in. The difference is that the momentum is favoring him right now. The problem for Obama is that while he has caught up in NH and SC, he has stagnated at a miniscule lead in IA. The probability of his nomination has moved from a little over a third to about 40% IMO.

                • In retrospect, Clinton's fundamental mistake was that she competed in IA. Edwards was living there for years, and Obama was from a neighboring state, so she could've said that a win wasn't possible. If she didn't compete there, she could've shored up NH while the other two viciously tear each other apart in becoming the anti-Clinton. And with her huge national lead, she could've afforded that loss (unlike, say, Clark in '04 or McCain this cycle).

Now it's difficult to see her win the nomination if she were dealt a blow in IA. Which she only has under a third chance of taking. Her best strategy might be to throw some support in certain precincts towards Edwards, whom she could more easily dispatch in NH and SC.

All things considered, I'd put her odds at just over 40%.

It seems Obama is concentrating heavily on a few early states hoping wins there will give him a big enough bump to make up for the lack of campaigning and ads in all the other states. That's is best bet but it will be hard given how much more money Hillary has.
