  • Man tries to open bank account with $1 million bill

It seems like eventually people would catch on to the fact that...this just isn't going to work.

    Associated Press

AIKEN, S.C. - A bank teller had a million reasons to deny this transaction.

Police say a man tried to open an account with a $1 million bill, which does not exist. The teller refused and called police while the man started to curse at bank workers, said Aiken County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Michael Frank.

Alexander D. Smith, 31, of Augusta, Ga., was charged with disorderly conduct and two counts of forgery, Frank said.

The second forgery charge came after investigators learned Smith bought several cartons of cigarettes from a nearby grocery store with a stolen check, Frank said.

Smith has a bail hearing scheduled Wednesday, but Deputy Angela Shunn of the Aiken County Detention Center did not know if he had an attorney. An off-hours call to the public defender's office went unanswered.

I don't assume that all South Carolinians would try this. The teller was from South Carolina too, I would expect.

We had one litigant who was required to deposit a bunch of money with the court. She brought in a promissory note in a amount vastly exceeding what she needed to deposit. So she demanded the court give her cash as change. (Her plan didn't work. )

this just happened recently it seems. I'm not convinced these were genuine attempts. I really do think they were just joking when they tried to cash these. No one can be that stupid.

There are 31 billionaires in Texas. Do you really think these guys walk around with hundred dollar bills in their wallets?

Yes, when they bother to deal with paper currency at all. And it's likely they don't carry anything smaller (Trump is known to carry nothing smaller than a $100, and refuse change).

I'm sure they have a $1M bill or two in there as well.
