I've noticed you've been a little shall we say "testy" on the whole Texas thing lately. Lot's of threads about controversial happenings in your state, but no threads about the good stuff.
Admittedly I know nothing about Texas first hand (I went by vehicle to Florida a couple times but didn't go through your state) so I'm taking this as a learning opportunity myself. So far I've learned it's a big territory by US standards (but kinda small for what I'm used to) with lots of people living in a few large cities. Lots of billionaires. Fiercely independent. The landscape is not all desert, like some would tell you.
Beautiful pines in East Texas. Magnolia, Dogwood, Redbud, all over north Texas. The Hill Country around San Antonio, and is very nice.
West Texas is stark, but there's a lot of beautiful sky and fine people.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

To the east of Dallas is "Dixie," those states descending from the old Confederacy, embracing its gentileness and traditional values. To the north of Dallas is "The Heartland," the breadbasket of America, with the middle America values shared by the states of the Great Plains. And to the west of Dallas is "MexAmerica," a blend of Hispanic and American cultures, dry with little population.

One Texas Soldier
A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune. "One Texas soldier is better than ten Taliban".
The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.
The voice then calls out "One Texan is better than one hundred Taliban".
Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gunfight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence.
The Texan voice calls out again "One Texan is better than one thousand Taliban".
The enraged Taliban Commander musters one thousand fighters and sends them across the dune. Cannon, rocket and machine gun fire ring out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence.
Eventually one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, its a trap. There's actually two of them."
