Um... you do. Insanely more. The crime in NYC is a far bigger story than crime in Texas (especially before Guiliani was mayor and Bratton was Police Commissioner). Hell, the only times I really hear about crime rate in Texas is when it comes to crimes that rise to the level of the DP.

Was the dispatcher in Texas? You know, the one saying not to do it? Or did the gunman call California 911?

Gee, you mean a densely populated urban center has a higher crime rate then an entire state which is mostly rural areas doted with a few cities? Who would have thought?
        Visit Texas Oerdin

24 million people are 24 million people, are urban dewllers automatically inferior to some way and thus held to a lesser standard by you? Obviously the people in NYC are the heinous barbarians, and you would be far more concened with NYCs antics if you weren't *gasp* a biggot *gasp.*

I believe this initial assumption is wrong, rich renders all the arguments that follow moot. I think Texas gets more press for its death penalty stuff than for its general crime rate. I hear about bad **** happening in New York City plenty.

Interesting that Texas gets so much disproportionate attention

          What the www.disastercenter.com shows is:
More thieves and rapists in NY, more murderers and violent people in Texas.
          Ooooh, what a surprise!!!!!

            uh?

            NY /= NYC

You will note Disaster Center has STATES, which is why I went somewhere else to find a CITY.

Furthermore you might have notices, but probably not given your shoddy inspection evidenced above, that both Wiki and disastercenter are themselves using the same source for their data

Sloww, you're trying to convince us that Texans aren't stupid and yet you seem to think this incident occurred in CA when several of us (including me now) are telling you it happened in TX...

As for the lower murder rate in TX, obviously the lower population density means that whenever an inbred redneck in Texas suddenly has an uncontrollable urge to blow someone away there are less available targets in the immediate vicinity. Remember, a redneck's weapon of choice (the shotgun) has a relatively short range...

                WHOOOOSH!

So your saying that NYC residents are more successful murderers, not less inclined. Again, what a disproportiate about of attention Texas gets here...

Yes, they would be if the NYC crime stats were for the entire metro area rather than just the 8 million or so that live within the city limits.

Even only for Apolyton, I think that Imran's assertion that we only hear about Texas crime because of the DP is correct.

Why not chosing some specific area of city vs whole state, would be even more 'realistic', no?

Oh good. The lead dumbass is still here.
The point is, the Texas dispatcher said don't do it. Read before you join Oerdin in his reveling in idiocy.

If and when the gunman is sentenced to execution, you can switch your point of view and lament his demise.

                          Population. Heard of it?

Not that it matters, its a rate per 100,000.

Gee, you can easily pick out the half dozen or so major cities from the surrounding areas of low population density. Compare that to the Northeast corridor or southern California where the densities are so high it is difficult to tell where one city stops and another begins.

Face it. Most of Texas has a low population density with a few high density cities. Which is exactly what I said.

Yep, all Texan thieves and rapists are either shot or sentenced to death by murderers and violent people.
