  • Who is your most detested philosopher ?

We had a thread a while back on who was your favorite filosofer. Now, let's take a look at it the other way around.

I'll open the hostilities with Kant - so obsessed about "truth" that he forgot he could have been lying.

I'll second that with Sartre - not uninteresting, but as Foucault said, he tried to understand the 20th century with tools from the 19th.

And to finish, Adam Smith. In a sense, he's an instructive victim of liberalism, but that's also what makes him ****ing scary.

    Friedrich Nietzsche.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead

You already know the answer: Parmenides of Elea. Equivocating whore that he was.

You already know my take on this too: he wrote for his contemporaries, who were used to poetic tales with gods and flying stuff.

Do you happen to think Heraclitus was "clearer" ?

No, he just didn't equivocate and so was ten times more respectable. I don't care about the imagery, I just can't respect the world's earliest known deconstructionist. People who "explode dichotomies" should be exploded with dynamite.

I'm not sure there's a philosopher I hate. Sure, a lot of them either irritate me or bore me, but I don't think I actually hate anyone of them. Maybe Heidegger, because he was a Nazi. He was a great philosopher, but a little man.

Oh, and Spinoza. He's the worst.

It's the same for me - I reckon that only brilliant people make brilliant mistakes...

In the case of Heidegger, I'd say that his commentaries on Nietzsche are even worse than nazism.
