Interestingly, the Freedom tower will be 1368 feet at the roof. The 200 Greenwich Street Building looks to be coming in at 1270 feet at the roof. WTC 1 was 1368 feet at the roof, WTC 2 was 1362 feet. WTC 7, which was the 3rd tallest building in the complex was only 610 feet (and has already been replaced by the new WTC 7 at 750 feet!) 175 Greenwich looks to be 1155 at the roof to be the third tallest building in the new complex.

I had thought that we were being too timid in only replacing WTC 1 and WTC 2 with The Freedom Tower, but it looks like this will be a skyscraper "in your face!" to AQ afterall.

That video is awesome but how does the Spire stack up to other buildings in Asia?

That redesign looks crappy. I much prefer the original design as this "new" design is pretty much just a generic box with a couple of pathetic attempts at making it not look like the generic box it is.

Oh, and cutting the height to just 1368ft from the original 1776ft was lame. I loved how the previous plan called for, every September 11th, the building to cast a shadow on the 9/11 memorial site at exactly the time of the 9/11 attacks and for the shadow to pass at exactly the time after the second tower fell. That's what I call great thought and indepth design and setting the height to 1776 ft was another key tie in with American history. What these jerk offs have done was sell the public on this world class design then after the project got approved they changed EVERYTHING leaving nothing but a generic box. What crap.

Oerdin, the "official" height will still be 1776 feet as tha will be the height of the antenna mast. I believe that WTC 1 was actually 1767 with its antenna mast.

                .
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Well that's good but I still like the original design better.

It's dead. Fortunately there are people who are going about it in a more realistic way.

Native-born Chicagoans should both hate the thing's design and be proud it's bringing Chicago back into the game. The Sears Tower is 442.3m and the Drill Bit will be 609.6m. The Burj in Dubai is currently looking at being 807.7m (I believe they're still being hush-hush about its final planned height). Skyscraperpage.com has stats and comparisons.

Don't federal regulations relating to air safety prohibit the construction in the US of any structure as tall as the burj anyway?

Not an antenna mast, a "spire". Which makes a difference apparently when judging the height of buildings. Spires count, antennas don't. *shrug*
