Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

Take your head out of your ***. You'll make more sense.

Compare the french situation in Quebec with that in Louisianna (their brethren). Where did their culture survive best? Yes, Quebec in Canada has been so hard done by.

The French were defeated. They need to live with that.

I'm amazed that there is a 'right' to be spoken to in a particular language.

I think I would be saying "Pardon my French" a bit too much if I was addressing a crowd that would only listen to my French linguistic skills.

We pick on the French too much when they have helped us out a lot in the past. I mean, they sold us 530 million acres of land for only 15 million dollars! And they gave us an awesome statue too.

I can never tell whether French Canadians are champions of their heritage or just self-loathing idiots. But this kind of situation tends to clarify that question.

There's a big difference between requiring French text on commercial products and requiring French skills in individual people.

Yeah but see, the thing is, and this has been proven through survey, the Montreal Canadiens are the single most recognizable entity in Quebec. More people could probably tell you that Saku Koivu is the captain than could tell you who our premier is. So people get their panties in a bunch about him more than they should.

Then they should make the "reasonable accommodation" of requiring all Habs players and coaches to speak French. All others to be traded or fired.

Again, this was an individual speaking at a public forum.

People using this to "prove" something already have their mind set anyway.

Don't tell me you think I couldn't get much worse about any topic in any region of the world.
