University of Delaware: All Whites in U.S. are Racist

While I generally could not care what Kid says, his original point is valid: while people of all races may be racist (and they are), the majority group (whites) are the ones with the power to really hurt the minority groups, who by their minority status can't harm the majority to the same extent.

Its a simple power argument - there might be prejudice against whites, but its whites who have the power to turn their prejudices into policy, overt or not.

Only an utter imbecile in the US would, if they had a choice, choose to live as a black man as oposed to a white man, simply because the whites have the power.

This ironically includes a racial argumentation pattern, since whites=racist; others=prejudiced and "whites=in power"; "others=oppressed". And to your last point: that's exactly what this thread was about. In the U of D case, there was a policy based on a racist and prejudiced basis, and thus a power relation.

Which is fully true, but what does this have to do with the original topic? In this thread I didn't see the typical "One has to be a lesbian black jewish woman" idiocy known from other discussions (and from some posters who posted here). But it's telling that a thread over a specific racist policy, ideology included, turned into general debate. The form of social control they tried to impose on U of D
is completely unacceptable and we could all have agreed without questioning the dominance of whites in politics, without questioning racially motivated injustices, etc.

Again, I don't care about Kid's definitions. Racism is a form of prejudice. The part of his argument that is valid is that there is a distinct power imbalance between the races in ths country, and that power inbalance does translate into the different effects of each group's prejudice. As for "white trash", even if they are poor, on the race aspect, they are still on the side with power. Of course, they are victims of class discrimination, which is another different prejudice.

Even if the hyperboly in the OP were true about the policy, the only overtly racist thing in this "policy" would be those "classes" that RA were given, and later posts show that the description in the OP was false. The actual OP does not say that anyone is actually ever forced to DO anything over race, or that they are in any way prejudiced because of their views on race. There is a inherent difference between having to hear someone elses viewpoint and being forced to act upon their viewpoint. The only actions people are accused of being forced to take might be putting up some door decorations, which 1. the OP did not describe, 2. taking certain ecological actions (which are not particularly relevant to a race discussion).

So, the reality is that this discussion is no longer about that Delaware policy, if only because the OP is highly disengenous about it.

That's not true. Middle class whites are also racists. They just act out in a different way. A black man on trial with an all white jury can not get a fair trial in many types of cases.

Also on the "white trash" issue. Many times, poor people are more overtly racist than the rich because in their minds, their race category is one thing they have going for them. For a poor white, being white at least makes them part of the majority, thus mitigating their lower class status in their mind: " I may be poor, but thank god I am not a poor black."

This is true in the west. But outside of it, there aren't many places you'd want to be white in.
