And what I said was that you're electing a corrupt and incompetent ****head who is anything but. Which you, of course, would've found out if you would've actually read my post and thought about it instead of recognising few key phrases and reacting with a Pavlov-like counterattack (attack against an ignorant strawman, something which you've usually done in Apolyton when you're highly annoyed about someone) without any content.

Judging from the fact that the only answer to my post was a reply which completely missed the point apparently because it's reader was too angry to read my post throughoutly, the key vote group to pander in Republican primaries seems not to be "religious voters" or "conservative voters" but stupid people. People led by image instead of reality, of truthiness instead of truth. Yeah, I "just didn't get it" because I presumed that stupid people would actually bother to find out whether there was anything beyond the "smaller government" image of Fred Thompson and read his history.

I love Gore. He's a GOP victory guarantor.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Weirdly enough in Southern California global warming is expected to make things more like El Nino years. That means more rain, more cloud cover, and slightly lower temps but higher humidity. I guess that's why it is called global climate change and not global warming.

Mostly it is due to money. Candidates promise people who come early with cash will get more access and influence once they've won. If you already payed off on politicians then you likely don't want to pony up more cash for a second. Especially if that guy is a long shot candidate and the first one tells you point blank that if you give money to the new guy then our door is closed when you come knocking.

The big money has already bought one politician and they don't want to have to buy another one.

I'm not sure about that one. The Bush 30% hate Gore but most of the rest of the people are either pro or at least neutral towards Gore. Either way Gore isn't running so he isn't likely to be a big factor in the upcoming election where as Iraq will be. That's not great news for either party but it seems to hurt the Republicans more as does Bush's unpopularity.

Let's put it this way. Inasmuch as the Dems forget what made Gore such a poor part of a victory coalition, the GOP will be smiling.

Gore has an Oscar and now the Nobel Peace Prize on his mantlepiece. He's the world's leading spokesperson on climate change, the enviroment, and other causes he cares about. He is an "elder statesman."

If he throws his hat in the ring, he'll be just another politician.

                  He is not running.

Forget teh Oscar, forget the Nobel; simple math would favor Gore in 2008. Remeber, he did win the 2000 popular vote, even though he was stupifyingly boring, an awful campaigner, and wasn't on the right side of a GOP fiasco like Iraq. Plus, the GOP candidate in 2008 is going to be in a much weaker position than Shrub was, since he will have fought a bruising battle for the nomination rather than having Bush's relatively easy time of it. Finally, remember that about half the people -- including damned near ever independent and every moderate -- who voted Republican in 2000 and 2004 now regrets it.

Really, look at that electoral map from 2000. Tell me which state Gore won the first time around that he would lose this time. There isn't one. But there are at least half a dozen states he lost last time that he could pick up, including Ohio, Florida, New Hampshire, and Tennessee. A Gore victory in the general election is easy to imagine.

The problem isn't the general election, it's the primary. Clinton-Gore would be a nasty, brutal battle that would divide the party and alienate the electorate. I don't think Gore could win it, and so it would only function to damage Hillary's candidacy. That's why he needs to stay out of it.

Banking on the weakness of the GOP candidate hasn't worked for the Democrats in the past.

I made the mistake of giving the people at www.draftgore.com my e-mail address at the last Earth Day Fair so I've been getting e-mail updates from them ever since. I bothered to read the one they sent yesterday just to see what they were saying about the Nobel Prize but I was surprised by the following e-mail:

Gore Uploads Three Campaign-Style Videos on Current.com

                            Dear Fellow Al Gore Supporter,

"Now is the Time for Action."

Yesterday, Al Gore uploaded three "must-see" messages about Iraq, healthcare and illegal surveillance at http://current.com/people/algore

We are entering a critical period of time when we have a window of opportunity to influence Al Gore's decision. Our volunteers are out in force across the state of California gathering signatures to put Gore's name on the primary ballot. We need your support. We need money to support our volunteers. Every little bit helps. Please make a contribution to California Draft Gore today and join us in making history.

It's not too late to volunteer. We have organized in every congressional district throughout the state. If you believe, as we do, that Al Gore is the solution for America, please volunteer today to be a part of California Draft Gore.

In his new book, The Assault on Reason, Al wrote, It is my greatest hope that those who read this book will choose to become a part of a new movement to rekindle the true spirit of America." Please join us and become a part of this new movement.

For those of you who have doubts as to whether Gore is indeed considering a run, I offer you this: In his only public appearance since winning the award, Al stated, "For my part, I will be doing everything I can to try to understand how to best use the honor and the recognition from this award as a way of speeding up the change in awareness and the change in urgency." We think one of the many options he's considering for speeding up the process is running for President. Roy Neel, his chief of staff recently said, "He's not ruled it out in the future." Asked what "the future" meant, Neel said, "Sometime later than today." If we do our job today, Al Gore will lead us all to do the job in "the future." Please pitch in and help:

                            Thanks so much,

                            Roy Gayhart
                            Organizer
                            California Draft Gore

                            858-581-1024
The first link does indeed show three new short videos (about 30 seconds each) of Gore informally talking about three different current events. I guess they could be "campaign style videos" like the e-mail said though they seem like just a few seconds of Gore speaking his mind about health care, Iraq, and restoring the Constitution then an actual campaign. My guess is Gore still won't run but he's keeping one hand in the public arena with a V-Blog like most politicians do now days.
