take away DP by force and make it optional

Introduce forced labour camps (with reasonable conditions, that is better than Gitmo for example, but not a hotel >>> providing "lifestyle" which they can pay off with their work) for the offenders, make them do stuff, so they have an option, either work or DP That way DP is not compulsory anymore, and not only dependent on some biased jury/judge but first they get convicted and second they have the option to end the life in case it's their preference.... plus they stop being a burdent to the society. They can have a meaningful life of work within their confinement in case they want to live. It's a win/win situation.

I'd choose the dp. Nothing against work but life in prison has to be the absolute worst punishment. I'd go crazy after about two hours.

Haha... It's not so easy killing yourself. If it was, then all those poor sods on the streets would've done it ages ago.

The Death Penalty should be held in reserve for the worst cases. Something like how India uses it.

It is an option. I guess just like India.
                  Are we all happy now?

                    I'm never happy.

                    Sometimes I am content however.

How is that different from the way we use it?

I don't like the DP as normal business in an established modern democracy. I can see its use in certain other scenarios, like post war Iraq (the Saddam case, similar the death sentences of the Nuremberg trials) but with a functioning civil society I think it should be abandoned.

Why? Obviously it isn't a moral case that makes you uneasy given the happy exceptions you listed, so what is it?

My main reason to be against it is the chance of killing an innocent person. The chance is always there, even if you try to minimize it.

Another reason would be that I don't like the idea of a state killing its citizens as normal practice, even if some think it would be justified due to their crimes.

The cases I find ok are situations outside a normal rule of law, they are rather transition times towards establishing or re-establishing that rule of law.
