LOL no-one thanked the British for doing that, why should the yankees get any credit.

I'd say thanks to the U.S troops in Iraq if I was confident that they were doing a great job.

Well, obviously you do have never heard of the Malacca Straits

      You are funny.

And what has the U.S. done there? Zip.
      And yet so woefully misinformed

And when there was a clear and present danger to democracy, the Canadians were fighting from day one while the Americans sat on the sidelines until they were attacked at Pearl Harbor.
      But still so very funny

Too bad only 99.9999% of world sea trade goes unmolested

I was involved ain a few eradication operations of illegal drugs as well as helped prevent some citizen from Canada getting in trouble aboard the Federal Indian Reservation I worked.

But the topic is to thank our troops for serving, not to say thank the US Govt. for doing squat to Canada.
With all due respect to you, and I've always liked your sense of humor, if Americans want to thank their troops, that your choice, but don't expect us to do it.

You'll get no thanks for me for the insane U.S. war on drugs. We'd be better off legalizing it and taxing it like we do with alcohol.

And we've seen how the U.S. deal with the First Nations, and while Canada is hardly a saint, we've never pulled a Wounded Knee.

Well Paktroskas, tell us what the U.S. has done for Canada.

Tell us how the U.S. has stopped piracy in the Malacca Straits.

Tell us how the U.S. joined the fight against the Nazis from day one.

Considering your national identity is largely defined by not being like us, I'd say we've done quite a bit for you. (there, hopefully that's enough smilies to indicate a jest)

We could discuss the Cold War & NATO, but I've a hunch you don't think that benifitted Canada and I'm not in the mood to beat my head against that particular wall.

I agree but let's not pretend you did it for us. That was US self-interest at stake.

Of course we're here just to serve Canada. And I'm sure when the author started this thread, he was talking directly to the Canadians. Sorry Canadians, but this thread is not about you.

But its posted on an international forum, so it's fair game.

Someone created a post for National Coming Out Day and when a bunch of posts were made commenting on how stupid it was, the gays cried and Ming supported them and told us to stop.

If we're not allowed to rain on the gays parade, why should you be allowed to rain on the parade of us capitalist loving imperialists ?

The tone in that thread got rather nasty a few times. Nothing like this.

(Post taken in the spirit intended) - I hope by "you" you don't mean me personally. I don't think I have rained on your parade. I can't answer for others however.

I think Iraq was a huge mistake forwarded by lies by a pack of liars. That said, I don't blame any military personel for the mess your nation is in. I wish them all well and hope they can come home ASAP.

Ehurrmm, while this is not really related to the thread topic, I still want to point out that WW2 was not a war to defend democracy - It had 3 sides, and none of them being "good".

                              Fascism vs Imperialism vs Communism.

All 3 sides had concentration camps, but the German version was the worst.

But you are correct about the fact that USA did not join until the fascist literally attacked them, 2 years and 3 months into the war.

I have absolutely no expectation that non-Americans would thank U.S. troops.

Many of us support the troops themselves -- but not the administration that has put them in harm's way.
