They haven't done anything good for me or my country...
You live in Canada right?

So? Surely you aren't going to say it was done for our benefit?

You don't think any of the actions of the US military benefit Canada?

Can the troops send thank you cards to all the other people in the US who have decided to do jobs they don't do? You know, thanks for being a janitor, or thanks for being a dentist?

Historically, yes. Precious little today. In fact a good argument can be made that your actions are now making us less safe.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Your country doesn't benefit at all from the near erradication of significant sea borne piracy?

For them being there instead of you?
Why? I would have never signed up in the first place. I don't understand why soldiers get so much broad sympathy. I don't see any movements titled "let's thank the police" for putting their lives on the line everyday here and they actually do something for America by policing the nation. Instead of thanks we get threads about how to subvert traffic laws. I don't hear people thanking the Iraqi army or fellow allies like Australians or Brits.
Yet in the News, we're always asked to thank the soldiers and send parcels and gifts to a man or woman I don't even know. A soldier who for all I know, is a gang member.
I have no reason to thank American troops. They haven't done anything good for me or my country, or for anyone else really, except U.S. corporations.
Not sure if that is a troll, an answer out of ignorance (I am not insulting you, ignorance means being ignorant of something), or you simply dont understand the picture.
And if Americans don't want our comments, then they shouldn't ask us to thank their troops.
Now if you want me to feel sorry for them, I certainly do.
Ok, I (large in part because I am not only a U S Citizen but also U S ARMY Veteran.) thank all military for their service. Be it in Afghanistan or Iraq or wherever.
I am not debating the right or wrong of this conflict.
I will say however the military has to be deployed sometimes to allow freedom's to flourish, bondage to be released and various people groups to be given a chance to live as normal a life as one could hope for.
As for sorry feeling for troops, ~meh~ cant say I feel sory, perhaps more sorry for the families left behind but then again, the military is not a company, very different objectives then most jobs have.
I also salute those troops fighting the war from afar, and to summize, fighting for freedom give you the right to voice that very freedom the troops are fighting for.
