And I thought it was a Bush-bashing thread. Normally I like those, but for some reason this one wasn't doing it for me. Now I understand why... it's a soul-searching thread!

I had the impression the two where mutually exclusive.

This is definately not a free speech issue. It is one with political ramifications with an ally. While Congress is fully within its rights to debate and vote on what they see fit, the President is equally within his rights asking them to vote a certain way or to stop the debate.

It may be true that some Armenian decendants may receive some additional leverage in their bid for financial compensation, but it is exceedingly stupid to do that at the cost to the country in its relations with a NATO ally.

Congress is fubar. I only hope that thinking Americans will vote heavily in the next election. This edition of Congress has been a total joke.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Whatever you do, don't mention the war.
