I guess you would say I'm a closet communist. I don't share my political believes with the general public, although people close to me know it. When I have discussed my political beliefs with people I always seem to be answering stupid questions over and over and I'm just on the defensive.

I wonder if it is like this for gay people. When you tell people you are gay doesn't that just open it up for people to ask you stupid questions and make stupid condescending points with you or quote bible passages to you? I wouldn't like that.

If you read the explanation I provided about the whole concept and purpose of "coming out and being out" you would realize that it's about being open, honest, and behaving in same ways that are deemed appropriate for straight people.
Thats all well and good Fun, and noble to boot, but you know damn well that events like this always get hijacked.

If it was all about helping those already in the fold why shut down the traffic in downtown districts instead of renting out a convention center? You want it public and unavoidable so people have to see it. This isn't unique to gay events either, insert any agenda/group and you get the same thing.

I don't get the agenda thing either. Don't gays pretty much vote the same way even if they are in the closet? Or not?

It's not about just helping those "already in the fold." It can also be about encouraging straight people to confront these issues of civil rights which is why events such as Gay Pride are public and open to everyone. It's a massive jailbreak, so to speak, from the oppressive closet many straight people have imposed on gays and lesbians. Of course, I myself have mixed feelings about how some Gay Pride events are organized and carried out, but that is probably enough for another thread . . . .

And what's with the pejorative use of the word "agenda" anyway? How did the word "agenda" come to have a negative connotation? Everyone with a cause, whether it be a moral/righteous cause such as civil rights activism, or a terrible cause, such as blowing up abortion clinics, have an agenda.

I think the inconveniences that people in cities have to deal with, whenever there is a Gay Pride event, St. Patricks Day event, an outdoor art festival, or any other event are worthwhile to tolerate during the short time such events are happening.

Nope; gays form a minority group that is diverse within itself in terms of gender, religion, race, ethnicity, age, economic class, and . . . .

            voting demographics.

But votes are secret. Why would a closet gay vote differently?

Well, I don't think being in the closet in of itself necessarily means voting differently. One could be a gay Democrat and be in the closet, or a gay Republican and be out to family and friends; or vice versa.

                        Kidicious is right.

There is absolutely no reason for gay organizers to combine "coming out" with a leftist agenda about Don't Ask Don't Tell, or gay marriage, or anything like that. If anything, it marginalizes homosexuals, and makes them political pawns more than human beings.

Wiggly Puff would be a wonderful addition to our citizenry. There, his insanity would go unnoticed above the din of everyone else's.
If you don't want people bashing gays, stop bashing other people.

Black Americans posed no problem. They were problematic to whites for racist reasons...Homosexuals pose an active problem for natural reasons.

In my admittedly annecdotal experience, though, gay people who tend to be more conservative tend to be more likely to be in the closet. Whether it's because being conservative makes you more closeted, or whether being closeted influences you into being more conservative I don't know. I would guess it's more likely to be the former, but I think the latter can be true in some cases, too.
