Excellent, now I have no reason to ever consider voting Republican.
Yep. That says it all.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

I'm not against free trade in general. I am against free trade when one country is held to certain high standards and the other country isn't. Free trade is based on the ability to compete, but how can we compete when we have to pay workers a minimum wage, guarantee the safety of our products, and follow other state mandated procedures? I'm not saying we should get rid of them, but I'm saying we should only trade with countries that meet the same standards.
I agree with you, Shrapnel. I'd rather see a race to the top in regards to working conditions and environmental standards than a race to the bottom, which is what we're seeing now.

Huge trade deficit, weak currency, other nations holding tons of our currency, stagnant wages.
How exactly have we benefited?
Because we were under protectionism in the late 1990s .
Or basically, what snoopy pointed out.
We, of course, all know how great the American automobile industry was for consumers when being protected by high tariffs

Yes lots of evidence there.

I've never heard of this cycle. Can you tell me about it?

Don't confuse trade with free trade. Being against trade is something very different. I suppose there are some anarcists or something who believe that.

You have an economics degree but you're not familiar with economic cycles?
Which school?

It's a real shame that the GOP is going in that direction. Needless to say, I don't agree with that approach, and will continue to vote accordingly.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
If Asher didn't realize it, then there's nothing you can do for him.

That's stupid. When is free trade going to make the US deficit go away, the dollar stronger etc... ? We can go through this all day if you want. Or you can just explain yourself.
