  • Coworkers say the darnedest things

Do you have a colleague that says immensely stupid things on a regular basis?

For the past two months I've been graced with the presence of a new colleague, a feeeeemale coworker born and raised in Toronto. On a daily basis, she says one or two things that crack me up for all the wrong reasons.

This thread will serve to chronicle such comments, and collect them from the rest of you.

Today's comment: "I didn't like Hotel Rwanda. I found it too campy."

    :|
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Oh so a movie about genocide automatically is beyond criticism? It stars a loser reject from the George Clooney casino heist movie. It has many historical inaccuracies. Far better, instead of making a movie about how great this one hotel man was (again arguable), and making public service announcements, maybe we should actually push for change and not our own careers.

I would like to add that I had a co worker, a gayyyyy man, who would not stop talking about his new cat Whispers (not to be confused with Whiskers). He was the biggest douche bag and tool I knew and I am glad he has since been removed from office.

Do you know what camp means, Wiglaf?

It means over the top. Which can also mean, taking itself too seriously for a dumb Hollywood movie starring Don Cheadle.

Camp could never, ever mean taking itself to seriously. You're delusional.

campy - providing sophisticated amusement by virtue of having artificially (and vulgarly) mannered or banal or sentimental qualities; "they played up the silliness of their roles for camp effect" [aka took themselves too ****ing seriously whether intentionally or not]; "campy Hollywood musicals of the 1940's"

The female could have used a better word but the movie had bad casting and plot inaccuracies.

The whole point of camp is that it is over the top on purpose. It's not supposed to be serious stuff.

Wiglaf has aligned himself with my stupidest coworker.

Bad casting and plot inaccuracies are problems unto themselves, completely unrelated to whether or not the movie is campy.

Being as how I haven't seen the movie, I can't comment on the casting and the plot; but it's not a camp movie. I probably would have seen it if it were - that would have been hilarious.

Maybe...they are one and the same.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

I do not work for Asher nor am I a gay female, let's stay on point here.

Asher, I hope that you don't work with this woman or she will eventually become depressed and will probably quit.

I'm not working with her for long. I'm transitioning to a new project shortly.

And I don't think she has to worry about quitting, her probation period is about to expire and I don't think she's sticking around.

What was wrong with the casting? Too many black people for you?
