You're making the bad assumption that the iPod Touch would not have been released at a pricier pricepoint than the iPhone.
How can he be wrong? They've sold a million of them. That's in line with their own expectations, which it is now obvious they were going to beat, price cut or no price cut.

You might have noticed that on the very day of the iPhone price cut, Apple announced a new iPod that is basically an iPhone sans the phone. This device was priced at $399 for a 16GB version and $299 for an 8GB version.
Oddly enough, it would seem a pretty hard sell to charge $300 more than the 8GB version for a basically identical item that only differs by including a phone.
Assuming that purchasers would realize the difference and think that the phone ability isn't worth that?
You're a bit optimistic there.

OK, then go with the market that rebounded after Apple sold the millionth iPhone, as was stated in the MSNBC article I linked to.

Sorry Asher. I'm not debating you anymore, but that article says that the iphone is selling well.
That was not the point at all.

I don't think the phone functionality is worth twice the price, especially since the iPod touch has most of the best bits the iPhone has. YMMV.
erm,
apple
price on 9/4 was 144.16
price on 9/12 is 137.8
please correct me.
9/4 was the day before the new product release. As I said before, Apple shares usually rise on the hype before an announcement, and then fall on the news. That's entirely normal.

Sure you don't, but do you think that the majority of iphone purchasers are sophisticated, or do you think they are more the "see pretty tv ad, see high price, want the status symbol" type? I'm going to go for the latter, based on the limited sample of people I know with iphones.

So you are saying that the press and investors get all excited over what Apple may be bringing out, but then they see it and realize it just isn't that great?

I believe I just told you that was not the point. Perhaps instead of guessing the same thing, you can change up your guesses.

Ummmm... No you didn't. You just posted a link. Thank you for doing that, but it doesn't back up what you are claiming. Find one that supports your argument and I will resume debating you.

Maybe. I happen to be an unorthodox lefty in that I don't have much time for the people who think that consumers are callously manipulated by advertising. Most goods like this sell in great numbers because there is something genuinely good about them, not because of brainwashing.
Look at the Nintendo Wii. People are buying it because it is great, not because of the hype. I think the iPhone is a lot like the Wii in its appeal.
The whole point of the debate has been lost through obfuscation and general bewilderment on Kid's behalf.
The whole point was simple: AT&T's activation numbers have not jived with Apple's reported sales numbers.
Except that you have no idea what the activation numbers are. For all you know, the numbers are within norms for the industry. And there's nothing to suggest that the activation numbers are extremely low.
So this part of your argument is based on nothing really
You are correct about the shipping/sales numbers, although 1 million is still substantial and Apple is ahead of its sales projections made in June.
