Dude, put up or shut up. You made up all this crap yourself. You have no source. Show me an analyst who believes that ATT is hoarding iphones.

    • Asher: If you think the subprime crisis is not affecting the entire U.S. market, you are sadly mistaken.

      • I'm not sure why an editor would care. He's not an analyst, nor a journalist.

Apparently you don't understand many fields, not just telecommunications, logistics, and computers.

I don't believe they are hoarding iPhones. I think I made it VERY, VERY clear that they may have overestimated demand for the phones at their stores, and ended up with a lot of unsold stock.

And if you want an analyst who thinks so -- it's me. I'm just as qualified as most of the clowns masquerading as analysts.

I also like to think for myself. I need not link to other people's opinions to support my own. Consider trying it some time.

Interesting comment, but it's going to have to be elaborated upon.

When it first scared the market, it certainly did. But recently? No, telecommunications stocks are not getting hit due to the "subprime" crisis today.

So long as you realize that the two are different. If they are just working through some over stock then the sales figures are pretty accurate. If they are hoarding iphones then your claims are correct.

                    That's actually a good idea.

I've already maxed out music purchases. I reckon I am 3 months behind on the stuff I've bought.

What areas interest you? Saving Darfur? Diseases? Fighting hunger? Reforming public education in Fairfax County?

Probably Oxfam. I met Peter Singer not long ago, and he was telling me how he donates a substantial portion of his income to them.

The only snafu is getting my credit card paid off every month, since I have to do it from overseas, which can be a pain in the ass.

EDIT: There all done. They'll bill my credit card each month until it expires. I guess I just set up another monthly donation once I get the new card.

Global markets, including telcoms, are being affected by the subprime crisis. Yes, the Federal Reserve Board cut on the discount rate prevent a complete collapse of the markets in August, but the fundamental problems remain. With quarterly numbers coming out soon, markets remain edge.

So any price movement in AT&T stock may simply reflect concerns about the big picture rather than just AT&T.

Look at the following comparison of AT&T and Mircrosoft shares. Notice the correlation.

                          • I see what you mean. Look at July 20th. Can't get more correlated than that.

There are general movements to the markets all the time. If you compare any two stocks over any given timeframe you will see general shifts in the same direction on a typical day.

In any case...AT&T has an exclusive deal for a highly hyped product, and their stock is flat (at best)? Developers aren't very confident...a simple press release with good activation numbers would fix it.

                            • Anyways, I'm surprised that Apple has hit the 1 million mark.

The iPhone is a beautifully designed product, technically and aesthetically, but it is also an ultimately flawed product because of its nonreplaceable battery and being tied to one service provider.

I can't imagine people in Asia buying a cellphone that doesn't have the capacity for changing sim cards.

Actually, you have proven my point.

Before August, the two stocks were not in sync. Once the subprime crisis starts to hit the stocks start moving together.

So the correlation in Aug and Sept demonstrates the effect of the subprime crisis.

A press release about activation numbers wouldn't change anything because what is affecting both stocks is concern about the knockon effects of the subprime crisis.
