If investors arent' aware of it, why did the stock drop like a stone with the first activation numbers?

Before August, the two stocks were not in sync. Once the subprime crisis starts to hit the stocks start moving together.

So the correlation in Aug and Sept demonstrates the effect of the subprime crisis.

This subprime crisis sure is powerful. It even caused correlated stocks over a year ago.

          • I think its fair to say the market was abundantly aware of the initial activitation number, and thats well documented.

Its a tad less clear if the market believes what Asher asserts about continued low activation.

It will certainly be ALWAYS less than Apple's sales numbers. Do we all agree on that?

                • I look at this thread and wonder how the hell it reached so many pages, then I realise most of it is just kidicious and agathon nitpicking and arguing semantics with CONJECTURE from asher and I just laugh.

As far as I can see it boils down to this:

                  1. apple sells lots and lots of iphones, expecting not unsurprisingly that the faithful will do anything for the $600 gizmo

                  2. apple slashes the price by $200 dollars, an odd move considering they met their projections

                  3. asher suggests that maybe this is a sign sales aren't quite as hot as stated, and also that apples sales figures only mean how many they've sold on to retailers (at-t only?) and that doesnt mean they're all in customers hands. This seems a fair GUESS to me given the circumstances

                  4. counter proposal - that apple slashed the price because much of the same functionality is in the new ipod touch, a possibly fair comment but also short sighted - people WILL pay a premium to have 1 device in their pockets instead of two. How is a $400 ipod an equal competitor to a $400 dollar iphone with the same capabilities plus being a phone?

                  In short, this thread sucks.

I don't see any reason to be concerned about activation numbers at this point. You are trying to show that if the activation numbers were released that it would show that there is considerable inventory with ATT. As time passes there is less reason to believe that there is problematic inventory with ATT. So the activation numbers become less relavent as time passes.

                      • I would just like to restate how little I care about ATT and Apple. But it's been fun.

I find it highly entertaining, myself.

Dude, you do realize there is a lot of divergence in that graph, compared to this year (MSFT a flat climb, T more jagged).

Now look at post Aug this year. They're virtually in sync.

                            Thanks for proving my point.

I think you have some kind of weird allegiance, actually. It's either that or you're trying very hard to make a name for yourself by "pwning" somebody for once. You picked the wrong person, your strategy of spouting nonsense til the other person leaves doesn't work for me. I don't quit.

In any case, I took a 100% true statement (activation numbers < apple's sales numbers), and asked for global agreement. You refused to do so, which says all we need to know -- you're not actually debating here, you're being contrary to be contrary.

You mean just like his theory about how AT&T stock has been hammered.
