I suspect I know your answer Sloww, unfortunately it was a permissive question and you don't have the authority to agree.

Now that I can agree with, you should be able to start a seperate thread like this.

The people posting in the World Football thread will see it and either post or not.

But at least it'll be seen.

You are welcome to your opinion...

But others have opinions different than yours.

The sports forum is a great success... allowing people who play the apolyton sports games a chance to find their threads on page one instead of buried on page two.

It seems your biggest problem is that not enough people talk about the sports you care about... that you can do something about by just starting threads and see if anybody responds... It is no surprise that many of threads are about American sports... considering the membership here, it makes sense.

We can't do that now, because there's zero interest in that kind of casual discussion in the Sports Forum.
Sure you can do that now... Start a thread and see... threads there get better responses then they used to when they were lost in the OTF. Nothing is stopping causual discussion except maybe your attitude

In June of this year, for example, an unprecedented drama occured in a Euro football qualifier between Sweden and Denmark. It literally shook up the entire country for several days afterwards, dominating the news and it was all people could talk about.

Now in the old days before the Sports Forum came into existence, this would have provided a good basis for an elaborate thread in the OT. As it turned out, I posted about it in the World Football Thread and was lucky enough (!) to solicit just a couple of replies, and then it was back to Bolton and West Ham going into stoppage time with no more substitutions available for either side.
You seem to remember the old days differently then many You could have started a whole new thread devoted specifically to the topic... maybe it would have done better... but we will never know now

My point is, you can't have a discussion on any kind of subject if the people who were likely to be just somewhat interested aren't there. And from browsing the Sports Forum on and off since its inception, there aren't anybody there who'd like to talk about sport other than the U.S. ones, the English Premier League and a couple of fringe sports in the global scheme of things. There's just one thread with NO replies on the World Athletics Championships, for crying out loud! Before, it'd have gotten massive responses in the OT for the two weeks' duration of the meet.
You keep mentioning the good ole days in the OTF. Well, there were a lot more European (and other posters) back then. Now there are less... so there is less discussion on some sports. It's not the fault of the sports forum. If anything, there has never been more discussion on sports. So while your sports may not be being discussed, it's only your own fault, because other sports are getting posted about at record levels.

As it is, the very invention of a Sports Forum has killed off any broader discussion of sports like we used to have on here. This is not an opinion, but a fact.
No... just your opinion. There is more sports talk now, and that's a REAL FACT.

And I'd like to hear the admins' views on it, and what should be done to correct the situation. As I see it, there are two options, "Nothing" and "Sport threads back in the OT". I'm a little anxious to see which one it'll be.
The answer is to keep the sucessful sports forum going the way it is. There is no situation to correct.

If you want to discuss other sports... do so. Don't blame all the Americans or the forum itself just because some may not be interested in what you are.

Everybody... and just who is everbody... obviously not all those that are involved in threads in the sports forum. Again, it's a FACT that there is more sports posting than ever before, and with less posters than we used to have. It just seems a "FEW" people are holding a different opinion. And I see no reason why we should take away the pleasure of all the people posting and enjoying the sports forum because a few people don't want to give it a chance.

Well, I guess you can't argue with success.

So keep up the good work, and pardon me for having completely misunderstood the whole issue of participation here.

More sports posting, perhaps. But on fewer sports, which is what I disagree with.

So perhaps not everyone loses out. Only those of us interested in a wide variety of sports. Non-American sports discussion is more or less dead now, on Apolyton. And that is also a fact.

So congratulations to those who are interested in American sports - the rest of us will just have to cope, I guess.

i think there is not enough activity in either of the 3 subforums to justify their existence. how this is debatable, i have no idea.

Yep... participation is great now when it comes to sports. We have far more games that people can particapte in, and it's now easier to find them and for people to join up

So congratulations to those who are interested in American sports - the rest of us will just have to cope, I guess.
Again... nothing is stoping you from posting or creating threads on subjects you want to talk about. If nobody wants to discuss it, don't blame the forum, maybe blame the other posters or the topic you picked

I think it would be unfair to close the sports forum just because a few people here have the opinion that it is keeping them from discussing their sports
