  • Well, you should read them, just know how to read between the lines (for both right and left leaning sources).

For two out of the last four years of my life the only consistant real media source I had available to me was a daily abbreviated NY Times publication sent to US ships via official email. It consisted of three pages of stories, one page or sports, and one of opinion pieces.

After all that, does it seem like I regurgitate the NY Times liberal line? No, I just gleaned the facts from the stories and ignored the spin (and more importantly exaggeration, the curse of media of all flavors).

    • This is because the media has so manipulated our perceptions of the war, that they can't be trusted.

All those librul reporters are just making it all up. But we can trust in Bush! And right-wing media That media is ok. Lefty media is bad, though.

grog want tank...Grog Want Tank... GROG WANT TANK!

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

            • I'd like to know, Shrapnel, what you think people should base their opinions on.

              White House press releases?

I said media. I didn't specify liberal or conservative. They're all guilty. As for what I think we should base our opinions on, that's a difficult question. The media isn't 100% false, so I would suggest merely not accepting everything they say and use your best judgement to figure out what is true and what is biased. I would suggest we require the media to leave their agendas out of the news and finally I would suggest people stop shooting their mouths off on this forum as if they are the definitive authority on what is really going on in the world. I submit that we don't know half of what is really going on in Iraq and instead of arguing about assumptiong, maybe we should compare notes and see if we can find out what those who control our information don't want us to know.

The invasion of Iraq could lead to another Vietnam

The question now probably is: where will the next Cambodia be: Iran or Syria?

Last I knew, nobody was forcing anybody to read this thread. Maybe you should just stop if you don't like what is being said or how it is being said.

Personally, I find the opinions of Ramo to be well supported and well thought out. I just happen to disagree with them and feel that I have good reason to.

The free discussion of ideas among the various citizens of the world isone of the things that helps bring everyone to understanding. Last I knew, there was no prerequisite of perfect knowledge required to be able to discuss one's opinion.

You are, of course, free to want people to "stop shooting their mouths off" and free to quit reading it...just as we are free to keep expressing our opinions based upon what we do know and what we think it all means.

Syria will be Cambodia and Iran will be Laos.

It always seems to be three...
